Patna: Bihar’s e-Gram Kachahari system is giving rural residents a faster way to resolve minor disputes, with more than 38,000 cases settled since January 2025 through the digital platform.
According to the Panchayati Raj Department, around 37,000 civil cases related to land, property and other disputes were registered, with 53% already resolved. The portal also recorded 31,274 criminal cases involving fights, minor offences and other disputes.
The digital system is helping residents save time, money and effort while strengthening the state’s village-level justice mechanism.

Digital System Makes Case Tracking Easier
Resolving disputes at the village level can reduce the need for residents to make repeated trips to courts and government offices.
The e-Gram Kachahari system has also improved case tracking and transparency, allowing people to access information about the progress of their cases more easily.
The initiative can also help maintain social harmony by providing a local mechanism for resolving smaller disputes before they escalate.
How Bihar Residents Can File a Case Online
Residents can register their cases through the e-Gram Kachahari portal using their mobile number and OTP.
After logging in, applicants need to select “Case Entry” and then choose “Add New.” They can enter the required information and select the Sarpanch, Up-Sarpanch and Panch before submitting the case.
The expansion of e-Gram Kachahari reflects Bihar’s effort to use digital governance to make rural dispute resolution more accessible, transparent and efficient.
With thousands of cases already resolved, the system is bringing a formal dispute-resolution mechanism closer to villagers and reducing their dependence on lengthy court processes for smaller matters.
