Patna: The Bihar Government has relieved two senior IPS officers within two days to take up new assignments in central government departments in New Delhi.
The move follows recent notifications issued by the Home Department, indicating that IG- and DIG-level officers have been posted to key roles at the Centre.
Rakesh Rathi Appointed Joint Secretary in MHA
Senior IPS officer Rakesh Rathi was relieved on April 29 for central deputation. A 2002-batch officer, Rathi was serving as Inspector General in the Special Branch of Bihar Police.
He has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs for a tenure of five years from the date of joining or until further orders.

Naveen Chandra Jha Moves to ITBP
Following Rathi’s transfer, Naveen Chandra Jha, a 2009-batch IPS officer, was also relieved on April 30.
Jha was serving as Deputy Inspector General in the Bihar Vigilance Bureau and will now take up his new role as DIG in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The state government has relieved him with immediate effect.
Earlier Deputation of Deepak Barnwal
Earlier, 2010-batch IPS officer Deepak Barnwal had also been cleared for central deputation. He has been posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Focus Shifts to Key Vacancies in Bihar
With these transfers, attention has now turned to filling the vacant positions in Bihar Police, particularly in intelligence and vigilance wings.
The reassignment of responsibilities will be crucial to ensure continuity in administrative functioning and internal security operations within the state.
