Patna: The Bihar government‘s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department is set to develop a state-of-the-art Nature Interpretation Centre at the Rajdhani Reservoir located near the Main Secretariat in Patna. The tendering process for the ambitious eco-tourism project has been completed, and construction work is expected to begin shortly.
According to departmental officials, the project is targeted for completion by October 2026 and aims to transform the reservoir into a major center for biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness, and nature-based tourism.
Eco-Tourism and Biodiversity Conservation Focus
The initiative aims to develop the reservoir not only as a recreational space but also as a dedicated hub for biodiversity conservation and environmental education. According to officials from the Patna Park Division, the core objective is to convert the site into a centre for ecological awareness while preserving its natural habitat.
The project will include landscaping and beautification of the reservoir area, along with the creation of an environmentally sensitive zone designed to support both local and migratory bird populations. Authorities expect that this will enhance bird diversity and increase the number of species visiting the wetland.
Currently, around 35 bird species are found in the Rajdhani Reservoir area. Prominent among them are the Lesser Whistling Duck, Common Moorhen, Common Coot, Gadwall, and Comb Duck.
