Patna: The Bihar government has launched the VB-G Ram Ji Scheme, aimed at providing guaranteed employment opportunities to unskilled workers and Jeevika Didis. Under the scheme, eligible rural beneficiaries will receive 125 days of employment per year, with implementation scheduled to begin from July 1.
The initiative is being positioned as a major step toward rural employment generation and livelihood strengthening across the state.
Scheme to Begin from July 1 Across Bihar
The VB-G Ram Ji Scheme will officially come into effect from July 1, with a focus on structured rural employment and infrastructure development.
Under the programme, the government will ensure organized work opportunities for eligible rural residents, particularly unskilled workers seeking guaranteed employment.
125 Days Employment Guarantee for Rural Workers
As per Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, the scheme ensures:
- 125 days of guaranteed employment annually
- Coverage for unskilled rural workers
- Inclusion of Jeevika Didis in livelihood-linked activities
The scheme is designed to strengthen rural income stability and reduce seasonal unemployment in villages.
Special Focus on Jeevika Didis and Rural Haat Development
A key feature of the scheme is its focus on Jeevika Didis (women self-help groups).
Plans include:
- Development of modern rural haats (village markets)
- National-level networking for rural women entrepreneurs
- Better market access for rural products
These measures aim to empower women economically and expand rural enterprise opportunities.
Technology-Driven Agricultural Infrastructure
The scheme will also introduce modern, technology-based facilities for rural development, including:
- Storage facilities for agricultural produce
- Improved supply chain and warehousing systems
- Digital and technical infrastructure support
This is expected to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmers’ market access.
Policy Discussions and Implementation Training
The initiative was discussed during a training programme organized by the Rural Development Department at Adhiveshan Bhawan, where Deputy Development Commissioners and District Programme Officers participated.
Officials emphasized structured implementation and efficient execution of the scheme at the district level.
Bihar First State to Implement VB-G Ram Ji Scheme
Officials stated that Bihar is the first state in the country to implement the VB-G Ram Ji framework. The scheme aligns with broader national development goals and aims to improve rural livelihoods through structured employment.
Government Push for Uniform Wages and Funding Support
During the programme, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar also urged the central government to:
- Ensure uniform wage structure across states under the scheme
- Release pending funds at the earliest
He highlighted the importance of timely financial support for effective implementation.
Central Government Support and Funding Allocation
Sanjay Kumar, Director at the Union Rural Development Ministry, stated that Bihar’s development is essential to achieving the vision of a developed India.
He also confirmed that the central government has allocated ₹6,715 crore as interim funding for Bihar, covering the remaining nine months of the current financial year.
