Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually inaugurated a ₹50 lakh Blood Component Separation Unit at Champawat District Hospital, strengthening emergency healthcare services in the district.
Blood Components Now Available Locally
The new facility can separate donated blood into Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBCs), plasma and platelets. Doctors can provide the specific component required according to a patient’s medical condition.
This will be particularly useful during accidents, major blood loss during childbirth, surgeries and serious illnesses.

Could Reduce Emergency Referrals
The facility is expected to reduce the need to refer patients to larger medical centres for blood components. For people travelling from remote areas, local availability could save valuable time during critical situations.
Champawat is the third district hospital in the Kumaon division, after Pithoragarh and Rudrapur, to receive this facility.
More Healthcare Projects Underway
Dhami said Champawat’s healthcare infrastructure is being expanded. A 50-bed Critical Care Block, CT scan, MRI and dialysis facilities have been developed at a cost of around ₹20 crore.
A diagnostic wing and operation theatre are also under construction.
Push to Make Champawat a Model District
The Chief Minister reiterated his plan to develop Champawat as a model district in health, education, tourism and infrastructure.
Projects include modern parking, city drainage, underground power lines, improved drinking water facilities, a science centre, women’s sports college and a modern ISBT.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Devesh Chauhan said the new unit will improve timely healthcare and could also encourage more people to participate in voluntary blood donation.
