Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the state government has received approval to establish five new government medical colleges in the state. The approval has been granted by the National Medical Commission (NMC), marking a major expansion in medical education and healthcare infrastructure in Chhattisgarh.
Sharing the information on social media, CM Sai said that the approval represents a historic expansion of medical education under the double-engine government and will provide new opportunities for students while strengthening healthcare services across the state.
Five New Medical Colleges Approved with 50 MBBS Seats Each
The newly approved government medical colleges will come up in the following locations:
- Geedam (Dantewada)
- Kunkuri (Jashpur)
- Manendragarh
- Janjgir-Champa
- Kabirdham
Each medical college will have 50 MBBS seats, adding a total of 250 new MBBS seats in the state.
According to the government, the approval from the National Medical Commission will help expand medical education opportunities and improve access to quality healthcare facilities in different regions of Chhattisgarh.
Medical College Approval Brings New Opportunities for Youth
CM Vishnu Deo Sai said that the establishment of new medical colleges from Geedam in Dantewada, once affected by Naxal violence, to Kunkuri in the tribal forest region of northern Chhattisgarh, reflects the government’s commitment to taking development initiatives to the last mile.
He said these institutions will not only provide medical education but will also give new direction to the dreams of students aspiring to become doctors.
Manendragarh Medical College Gets NMC Approval for 2026-27 Session
The new government medical college in Manendragarh has also received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The college is expected to begin its academic session from 2026-27 with 50 MBBS seats.
Health Minister and Manendragarh MLA Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that the approval fulfills the promise made to the people of the region. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for supporting the initiative.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC has issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) for the medical college.
Remote and Tribal Areas to Benefit from Better Healthcare Facilities
The Chhattisgarh government stated that the new medical colleges will significantly benefit remote, tribal, and aspirational districts of the state.
The expansion will help:
- Increase availability of qualified doctors
- Improve healthcare services in rural areas
- Provide medical education opportunities closer to students’ homes
- Strengthen healthcare infrastructure in underserved regions
The government believes that setting up medical colleges in these areas will help reduce healthcare gaps and improve access to specialist medical services.

CM Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the double-engine government is continuously working to bring major reforms in healthcare and medical education.
He added that these new institutions will strengthen the medical education system and help create a new generation of doctors in Chhattisgarh.
The availability of trained medical professionals at the regional level is also expected to improve the quality of healthcare services across the state.

The Chief Minister said that the newly established medical colleges will not remain limited to education facilities but will also develop as important centres for:
