Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has taken a major step towards women empowerment by announcing a 50% discount on registration fees for property registered in women’s names. This decision is aimed at encouraging women to own land and property, thereby strengthening their financial independence.
The state cabinet has already approved the proposal, and an official notification has been issued, making the new rule effective immediately.
Registration Fee Cut from 4% to 2% for Women
Under the new policy, the property registration fee for women has been reduced from 4% to 2%.
This means that whenever any immovable property is registered in a woman’s name, she will now receive a direct 50% concession on stamp and registration charges.
Officials say the move is expected to significantly increase women’s participation in property ownership across the state.

Estimated ₹200 Crore Impact on State Revenue
Due to the reduction in registration charges, the state government estimates a revenue impact of around ₹200 crore.
However, officials have stated that the long-term social and economic benefits of women empowerment outweigh the short-term revenue loss.
Additional Relief for Soldiers and Their Families
Along with this decision, the government has also announced a 25% stamp duty rebate for serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their widows on properties valued up to ₹25 lakh.
This move aims to honor their service and provide financial relief to defence families.
Rising Women Ownership in Property
The impact of women-focused policies is already visible in the state.
During 2024–25, around 82,755 women registered property in their names in Chhattisgarh.
Officials say this reflects a growing trend of women becoming property owners, supported by awareness campaigns and government incentives.
Strengthening Women’s Financial Security
Earlier, most properties were registered in the names of male family members. However, the new policy is changing this trend by encouraging women to become legal property owners.
This is expected to:
- Improve women’s financial independence
- Strengthen social security
- Increase property ownership among women
- Promote long-term economic empowerment
Major Step Toward Gender Equality and Empowerment
The Chhattisgarh government’s decision is being seen as a landmark reform in promoting gender equality in property ownership. By reducing financial barriers, the state aims to ensure greater participation of women in wealth creation and asset ownership.
