Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Monday to discuss key issues related to the city’s development and growth.
According to a statement from Lok Niwas on X, the discussions focused on improving infrastructure, public services, and long-term urban planning for Delhi.
Focus on Public Transport and Urban Development
The meeting comes amid a strong push by the Delhi government to promote public transport usage and address monsoon-related flooding challenges.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated that development work prioritizing citizens’ needs will be implemented on a fast-track basis.
Major Announcements: Metro Expansion and Dwarka Development
During her engagements, the Chief Minister announced:
- ₹150 crore allocated for development of Dwarka
- ₹6,200 crore Delhi Metro expansion project from Kirti Nagar to Palam
The expansion is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel congestion across key parts of the capital.
‘Metro Monday’ Initiative Promotes Public Transport
As part of the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign, the government launched a special ‘Metro Monday’ initiative encouraging citizens to use public transport.
On the same day:
- The Chief Minister used Delhi Metro and DTC bus services for commuting
- Ministers and senior officials also travelled via public transport
- The initiative aimed to promote fuel conservation and reduce traffic congestion
Chief Minister’s Public Transport Journey
The Chief Minister began her day by walking from Raj Niwas Marg in Civil Lines to Lok Niwas for a meeting.
She then:
- Traveled in an electric vehicle to Kashmere Gate Metro Station
- Took the Delhi Metro to ITO Station
- Used a feeder bus to reach the Delhi Secretariat
Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Verma and Ravinder Indraj accompanied her during parts of the journey.
‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ Campaign Message
The Chief Minister said the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign is more than a government initiative—it is a public movement.
The campaign encourages citizens to contribute through small but meaningful actions that support:
