Delhi Govt Unveils Major Park Development Plan to Boost Green Spaces and Reduce Pollution

CM Rekha Gupta announces increased funding, 100% government support, and community-driven initiatives to modernize and expand parks and gardens across the city
Indian Masterminds Stories

Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a new initiative aimed at developing parks and gardens across the city. The plan focuses on increasing green cover, controlling pollution, and improving the overall urban environment. By enhancing greenery, the government aims to strengthen the city’s identity while raising the quality of life for citizens.

Significant Increase in Financial Support

Under the new scheme, the financial assistance for park maintenance is set to increase from ₹2.55 lakh per acre to ₹3.8 lakh annually. This increase will support cleaning, irrigation, and greenery preservation efforts. Additionally, the plan encourages community-based participation in park upkeep.

Shift to 100% Government Funding

The Delhi government has decided to replace the current 90:10 funding model with 100% government assistance. This ensures that small organizations and local groups can participate in park development without facing financial constraints. The move will facilitate proper development and maintenance of parks and gardens across the city.

Support for New Park Construction

The government has proposed increasing one-time assistance for constructing new parks from ₹1 lakh per acre to ₹2.9 lakh per acre. This initiative will support the preservation of green spaces and promote the development of parks in new colonies. The new parks are expected to reinforce Delhi’s green identity amid rapid urbanization.

Upgrading Existing Parks

Existing parks will also benefit under this plan. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and societies can receive ₹2.5 lakh per acre to improve infrastructure such as display boards, dustbins, and irrigation systems. These upgrades will provide citizens with better-maintained parks and gardens while maintaining environmental balance.

Emphasis on Community Participation

CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that community involvement is key to sustaining Delhi’s green spaces. Active participation from RWAs and local organizations will ensure proper maintenance and long-term preservation of parks. This initiative aligns with Delhi’s vision for a developed, sustainable city while improving both environmental and living standards.

Strengthening Delhi’s Green Infrastructure

With increased funding, better maintenance plans, and active citizen participation, Delhi’s parks and gardens are set to become cleaner, greener, and more accessible. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, urban well-being, and enhanced public spaces for all residents.
