In a significant development, the Gujarat Home Department has appointed 1998 batch IPS officer Piyush Patel as the new Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Ahmedabad. The post had been vacant for an extended period following the transfer of IPS Shamsher Singh to a central government position. Patel, who recently returned from a central deputation, has now been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the state’s premier anti-corruption body.
The position of Director of the ACB was previously upgraded from a cadre post in the Director General of Police grade to an ex-cadre post of Director in the Additional Director General of Police grade. Sources indicate that discussions were circulating around the possibility of Patel being appointed to the Intelligence Bureau, but he has now been appointed to the ACB instead.
In an official notification issued on Wednesday, the Gujarat Home Department confirmed the appointment of Piyush Purushottamdas Patel. The notification, which was issued under the orders of the Governor, directs Patel to take charge of his new role with immediate effect.
Patel has had a distinguished career, serving in various important capacities, including in the Border Security Force (BSF) since 2023. His appointment is expected to bring much-needed leadership to the Anti-Corruption Bureau and to address pressing concerns regarding corruption in the state.
The long-vacant position of ACB Director had raised concerns, and Patel’s appointment is expected to bolster the state’s efforts in combating corruption and enhancing transparency in governance. His leadership is anticipated to play a key role in strengthening the ACB’s capacity to investigate and tackle corruption cases effectively.
