Finance Commission Joint Secretary and senior IAS officer Rahul Jain addressed students at a guidance session organised by the Royal Institute of Management and Advanced Studies in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
During the session, he emphasised that in today’s competitive world, skill development has become more important than academic degrees.

Focus on Employment and Self-Employment
The session focused on key pathways to success, including employment, self-employment and spirituality.
The programme was presided over by Royal Group of Institutions Chairman Pramod Gugalia, who introduced Jain as a 2005-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Jain has served in several important positions, including Collector of Gwalior, Rewa and Narmadapuram, and as Director of the Town and Country Planning Department (TNCP). He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.
‘Go Beyond Bookish Knowledge’
Addressing the students, Jain said academic qualifications alone are no longer enough in the present era.
He stressed that students must enhance their skills and move beyond textbook knowledge to meet the ever-evolving demands of industries and employers.
“Skill development has surpassed academic degrees in importance,” he said while encouraging students to continuously upgrade their capabilities.
Highlighted Government Schemes
Jain also informed students about various government schemes designed to support career growth and employment opportunities.
He spoke about the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, the Chief Minister’s Seekho-Kamao (Learn and Earn) Scheme, the Vivekananda Career Guidance Scheme, the Corporate Mitra Portal and the iGOT Platform.
He urged students to actively explore and utilise these schemes for professional advancement.
Hard Work and Digital Discipline Key to Success
Highlighting the value of perseverance, Jain said hard work and persistent effort remain irreplaceable for achieving success.
He also stressed the importance of digital discipline and encouraged students to use technology productively rather than as a distraction.
Several dignitaries, including social workers Om Agarwal and Mangilal Jain, were present during the programme.
