IFS Officers across the country are agitated over the government inaction on the alleged murder of Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF), Meghalaya, Mr N Luikham. Worse is that the blatant murder is being passed off as a case of suicide.
The IFS Association (Central Unit) has already written to the Union Home Secretary and the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, demanding a CBI probe into the incident that took place more than a fortnight ago. Yet, nothing has been done by the state government as well as the centre.
Indian Masterminds got in touch with Mr. Luikham’s batchmate, according to whom, he was a strong willed person with steely resolve. “He was not the kind of person who would commit suicide. He was an honest man to the core who fought against the mining and timber Mafia, till his last breath.”
The circumstances and facts related to the incident also raise eyebrows. Mr Luikham was supposed to leave for Delhi, early that morning. The evening before, he was visited by three people who had threatened his life. He had informed his lawyer about the threats. The lawyer advised him to first complete his Delhi visit after which he will proceed with the legal formalities, upon his return.
But why would a person, who was going on an official visit to Delhi, commit suicide barely minutes before his departure? His body was discovered in the garage of a nearby uninhabited house. Interestingly, there was no stool or chair on which he could have stood to put a noose around his neck.
IFS Association Secretary general, Dr. Suneesh Buxy said that there are multiple discrepancies in the police theory of a suicide. That is why the association has demanded an impartial enquiry by the CBI.
This troubling revelation has prompted Mr. Luikham’s sister to take action. She has written an application to the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, urging for a thorough investigation into her brother’s death. Specifically, she has demanded a CBI probe to uncover the truth behind the alleged pressure and harassment that may have led to this tragic outcome.
Mr. Luikham’s batchmate also revealed that he was an officer known for his impeccable integrity and strong moral principles, despite not owning a house himself. Currently, efforts are underway to raise funds to build a home for his daughter. Additionally, it was disclosed that Mr. Luikham recently sold his car to purchase a plot of land in Dimapur.
“We are so helpless and can’t do anything about it. Whatever the cause of the death, we should find the reason,” Mr. Luikham’s batchmate shared.
