Shortly after being transferred as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Mumbai, IPS Nimit Goyal made the shocking announcement of quitting the bureaucracy — citing personal reasons. The 33-year-old IPS officer has been ambiguous regarding why he chose to hang up the gloves at such a premature stage of service and stated, “I plan to take up an assignment in the private sector.“
Mr. Goyal (2014-batch IPS officer) served as the Nagpur DCP before his recent transfer. According to Maharashtra’s Home Department, Officer Goyal’s resignation could take a few months to be processed as it requires the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Premature retirement (VRS) from All India Services is not uncommon. Usually, bureaucrats make up their minds for the golden handshake after decades of serving in the bureaucracy. But it is rather uncanny to witness such young officers quitting the service — having hardly completed 10 years!
Earlier, in January 2014, the then Mumbai Police Chief Mr. Satya Pal Singh had sought voluntary retirement from IPS to contest LS polls from UP as a BJP nominee. Then Home Minister R R Patil accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Singh was later elected as an MP from Baghpat, UP.
