New Delhi: Delhi Weekend Traffic Courts will start operating from July 5, 2026, giving thousands of vehicle owners a faster and easier way to settle pending compoundable traffic challans. The new system has been introduced by the Delhi District Courts in coordination with the Delhi Traffic Police to reduce the backlog of traffic cases and save people from taking leave on working days. The initiative is expected to make traffic challan disposal quicker, more convenient, and citizen-friendly.
What are Delhi Weekend Traffic Courts
The Delhi District Courts are launching special Weekend Traffic Courts (WTCs) across the national capital. These courts will hear eligible traffic challan cases on weekends, allowing vehicle owners to resolve pending fines without visiting courts during weekdays.

When Will the Delhi Weekend Traffic Courts Start?
The new system will begin on Sunday, July 5, 2026. After that, the courts will function:
- Every Sunday
- Every second Saturday of each month
This schedule has been designed to help working professionals and other citizens who find it difficult to attend court during weekdays.
Court Timings
The Weekend Traffic Courts will work in two sessions:
- Morning: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
- Afternoon: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Both parties will be heard before the matter is disposed of.
Where Will These Courts Operate?
A total of 22 special traffic court benches will function across district court complexes in Delhi, including:
- Tis Hazari
- Patiala House
- Saket
- Dwarka
- Rohini
- Karkardooma
- Other district court complexes
The initiative will cover all major judicial districts in Delhi.
Which Challans Can Be Settled?
Only compoundable traffic challans can be resolved through these Weekend Traffic Courts. According to the official arrangement:
- One vehicle can bring up to 20 eligible challans for settlement.
- Each court bench can hear up to around 700 challans in one sitting.
This is expected to significantly reduce the large backlog of pending traffic cases.

The Delhi District Courts and Delhi Traffic Police launched this initiative to:

Vehicle owners can check or download their pending traffic challans through the official Delhi Traffic Police or Delhi District Courts Virtual Court portal using details such as the vehicle number or mobile number. Official notices also provide information about downloading eligible challans before appearing in court.
