New Delhi: The Supreme court directs Delhi govt to provide proper medical treatment to people injured during Delhi student protest. The Supreme Court passed this direction while hearing petitions related to the alleged use of metallic pellet guns by police during the protest at Jantar Mantar and other areas of the national capital.

The court said that injured people must receive proper medical care. The matter is being heard by a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana.

Delhi Student Protest: What Did The Supreme Court Say

The Supreme Court directed the Delhi government to ensure proper treatment for everyone who suffered injuries during the student protest. The bench also noted that police rules allow the use of pellet guns only in exceptional situations. It added that unless these rules are legally challenged, the court cannot declare their use illegal at this stage.

Why Was The Petition Filed

The petition was filed over allegations that police used metallic pellet guns against students during the protest. The petitioners asked the court to gradually stop or completely ban the use of metallic or partially metallic kinetic projectiles fired from pump-action and projectile-action guns for crowd control during law enforcement operations.

Delhi Student Protest: Petitioners Also Sought Better Medical Care

Apart from seeking restrictions on pellet guns, the petitioners requested the court to ensure that all injured people receive:

  • Immediate medical treatment
  • Long-term healthcare support
  • Rehabilitation and recovery assistance

The Supreme Court’s latest direction focuses on providing proper treatment to those injured while the legal issues related to police action continue to be examined.

Background Of The Delhi Student Protest

The case is linked to the recent student protests in Delhi over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. In earlier hearings, the Supreme Court had ordered authorities to preserve CCTV footage and other digital evidence, protect eligible student protesters from coercive action, and consider the need for an independent investigation into allegations of injuries suffered by both students and police personnel.
