Nashik: Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Sadanand Date, an IPS officer of 1990 batch, on Tuesday called upon 583 newly commissioned Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) to continuously upgrade their technological skills and knowledge to effectively tackle the rapidly evolving challenges of cybercrime and economic offences.
Addressing the Passing-Out Parade of the 127th Batch of PSI Cadets at the Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA), Nashik, Date emphasized that policing in the digital era demands constant learning, technological adaptability, and proactive engagement with emerging threats.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of a rigorous one-year training programme for 583 future police officers who are now set to join the Maharashtra Police force.
DGP Emphasises Need for Continuous Learning
Speaking as the chief guest, DGP Date highlighted how technological advancements have transformed the nature of crime, making cyber and financial offences among the most significant challenges facing law enforcement agencies today.
“Rapid technological advancements have led to a proportional rise in cyber and financial offences. To effectively combat these challenges, there is a need for police personnel to stay updated with modern tools and continuously acquire new knowledge even after completing their formal training,” Date said.
He urged the young officers to view learning as a lifelong process and remain prepared to adapt to evolving criminal methodologies.
Call for Strong Action Against Drug Abuse
The DGP also expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of drug abuse among young people and warned about the dangers posed by the easy availability of narcotic substances.
He stressed that newly inducted police officers would have a crucial role in maintaining law and order while simultaneously conducting awareness campaigns against substance abuse.
According to Date, policing must not only focus on enforcement but also on educating society, particularly youth, about the dangers associated with narcotics.

The 583 trainee officers underwent an extensive 12-month training curriculum designed to prepare them for modern policing challenges.

Following the parade, DGP Date chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The review focused on:

- Parking arrangements
- Traffic regulation
- Police welfare measures
- Accommodation facilities for deployed personnel
Officials informed the DGP that more than 50,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed during the mega religious event.

Over 12 Crore Devotees Expected
According to projections by the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority, the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela could attract more than 12 crore devotees, making it one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
Given the anticipated turnout, authorities are significantly expanding preparations in areas such as:

The DGP stressed the importance of early planning and inter-agency coordination to ensure a safe and smooth conduct of the event.
