Bengaluru: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government has entrusted senior IPS officer M N Anucheth (IPS: 2009: Karnataka) with two important responsibilities. The officer has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and Commissioner of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR)while also being given the concurrent charge of Commissioner, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department.
The move comes as part of a wider administrative exercise undertaken by the state government to strengthen leadership across key departments.
Anucheth Replaces Hemanth M Nimbalkar at DIPR
According to the government order issued on Wednesday, Mr Anucheth has been transferred from his previous post as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Recruitment) and appointed as DIGP and Commissioner, Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
He replaces Hemanth M Nimbalkar, who has been relieved from the post and is currently awaiting a fresh assignment.
The Department of Information and Public Relations plays a crucial role in disseminating government policies, public welfare initiatives, and official communications to citizens.
Additional Charge of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department
Besides heading the DIPR, the government has also entrusted Mr Anucheth with the additional charge of Commissioner, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department.
The post became vacant following the transfer of Kumar THM (IAS). The government order stated that Anucheth will continue to hold the additional responsibility until further orders.
The dual assignment places the IPS officer at the helm of two departments that have significant public outreach responsibilities, particularly in engaging youth and strengthening government communication.
Who is IPS Officer M N Anucheth?
Mr Anucheth is a 2009-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and is widely regarded as one of Karnataka’s most capable and technology-oriented police officers.
Early Life and Education
Born in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, IPS Anucheth grew up in a family with a strong policing background. His father was a respected IPS officer, exposing him early to public service and law enforcement.
He completed his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru, in 2006.
Before entering the civil services, he briefly worked in the private sector as a VLSI chip design engineer.
UPSC Journey
Determined to join public service, IPS Anucheth prepared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and cleared it on his second attempt.
He secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 100, opting for Electrical Engineering and Anthropology as his optional subjects.
He officially joined the Indian Police Service on December 21, 2009.

One of the defining moments of his career came when he became part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT)probing the high-profile murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Transforming Bengaluru Traffic Management
He later served as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru, where he introduced several technology-driven reforms.
