Kolkata: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forest Department, Government of West Bengal, to voluntarily plant 10,000 seedlings across the state during the financial year 2026-27.
The initiative is part of PNB’s commitment towards environmental sustainability, afforestation, and community participation in conservation efforts.
The plantation drive will be carried out under the ‘Ekti Gaach, Maayer Naame!’ campaign, which is aligned with the national ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ movement.
The programme is also a part of the Aranya Saptah celebrations, observed from July 14 to July 21, encouraging people to participate in forest conservation and environmental protection activities.
MoU Signed in Presence of West Bengal Dignitaries
The MoU was exchanged during a special ceremony attended by senior officials and dignitaries from the Government of West Bengal.
The event was attended by:
- Chief Minister Mr. Suvendu Adhikari
- Forest Department Minister Mr. Manoj Kumar Oraon
- Chief Secretary Mr. Manoj Kumar Agarwal
- MLA of Bidhannagar
Representing Punjab National Bank, the MoU was exchanged by Mr. Binay Kumar Gupta, Chief General Manager and Zonal Manager, Kolkata, with Mr. P. Kamalakanth, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, West Bengal.
The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Rahul Sharma, Circle Head, Circle Office Kolkata North.
Plantation Drive to Promote Environmental Conservation
Through this partnership, Punjab National Bank aims to strengthen its environmental initiatives by supporting large-scale tree plantation across West Bengal.
The programme will focus on:
- Improving the state’s green cover.
- Promoting awareness about the importance of forests.
- Encouraging citizens to take part in environmental protection.
- Supporting long-term conservation and sustainability goals.
