New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder for the Intra-State Transmission System project titled “Establishment of 765kV GIS Pune West (District – Pune)” in Maharashtra.

The company secured the project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and will execute it on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project on October 16, 2026.

The project carries quoted annual transmission charges of ₹199.55 crore and will strengthen high-voltage transmission infrastructure in Maharashtra.

POWERGRID Pune West Transmission Project: Key Details

The 765kV GIS Pune West project involves the development of a new high-voltage substation and associated transmission infrastructure to support electricity transmission in Maharashtra.

The key components of the project include:

  • 765/400kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS): Establishment of a new substation at Pune West in Maharashtra.
  • 765kV Transmission Lines: Construction of associated 765kV transmission lines across Maharashtra.
  • 400kV Transmission Lines: Development of associated 400kV transmission lines to strengthen the transmission network.

POWERGRID Secures 10 Transmission Projects in FY 2026-27

With the Pune West project win, POWERGRID has secured a total of 10 transmission system projects under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding mechanism so far in the financial year 2026-27.

The cumulative annual transmission charges of these 10 projects amount to ₹7,863.63 crore, highlighting the company’s continued participation in India’s transmission infrastructure development.

The latest project adds annual transmission charges of ₹199.55 crore to the company’s portfolio of projects secured through competitive bidding.

Lakadia and Rajasthan REZ Projects Add to POWERGRID’s Portfolio

Among the other major projects secured by POWERGRID during FY27, the Lakadia REZ Phase II project, won in September 2026, carries annual transmission charges of ₹1,152.49 crore.

The company also secured the Rajasthan REZ Phase-IV Barmer-II project, with quoted annual transmission charges of ₹3,244.33 crore.

These projects form part of POWERGRID’s expanding portfolio of transmission infrastructure initiatives, supporting renewable energy evacuation and the development of India’s electricity transmission network.

The cumulative annual transmission charges of ₹7,863.63 crore from the 10 projects reflect the scale of the company’s project wins under the TBCB framework during the current financial year.

POWERGRID Expands High-Voltage Transmission Infrastructure in Maharashtra

The Pune West project will expand POWERGRID’s presence in Maharashtra’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure segment. The proposed 765/400kV gas-insulated substation, along with the associated transmission lines and bays, will form an important part of the regional transmission network.

Gas-insulated substations use gas-insulated electrical equipment to provide compact and reliable substation infrastructure, making them suitable for locations where space and operational requirements are important considerations.

The project also reinforces the role of tariff-based competitive bidding in awarding transmission infrastructure projects and encouraging competition among eligible developers.

POWERGRID Discloses Project Win Under SEBI Listing Regulations

POWERGRID disclosed the project award to the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE Limited under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

The disclosure confirmed the company’s successful bid for the Pune West transmission project, the annual transmission charges of ₹199.55 crore and the receipt of the Letter of Intent on October 16, 2026.
