New Delhi: BEML R&D spending has increased by 150% in FY26 as the public-sector engineering company strengthens its focus on indigenous technology development. The company invested a record ₹251 crore in research and development to build advanced products for the rail, defence, mining, construction, and future mobility sectors. This move supports India’s vision of becoming more self-reliant in critical technologies and manufacturing.
BEML R&D Spending Plan: Record Investment in Research and Development
BEML invested ₹251 crore in research and development during FY26. This is a 150% increase compared to the previous financial year. The company’s R&D spending also increased from 2.57% of revenue in FY25 to 6.25% of revenue in FY26, showing a strong commitment to innovation.

What are the Focus Areas of BEML R&D Spending Plan
BEML plans to develop 35 to 40 indigenous products over the coming years. These products will serve important sectors including:
- Railways

- Future mobility
The company aims to reduce dependence on imported technologies while supporting the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Four-Level R&D Strategy
BEML has created a new four-layer research system to improve innovation. The structure includes:
- Engineering teams working on existing products.
- Technology planning and partnerships with research organizations.
- A Futuristic Product Innovation & Incubation Centre for new platforms.
- A Central Research Facility (CRF) for long-term advanced research.

Along with higher R&D spending, BEML reported:
- Record annual revenue of ₹4,351 crore
- Record production value of ₹4,239 crore
- Capital expenditure of ₹379 crore
- A strong order book for future growth
The company expects around 30% revenue growth in FY27, supported by increasing demand across defence, metro, rail, and infrastructure projects.
