Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann invited industrialists and investors from India and abroad to invest in Punjab during the India Textile Expo (BharatTex 2026) in Delhi.
Addressing participants at the Punjab State Session, the Chief Minister said that Punjab is creating a strong business environment through investor-friendly policies, modern infrastructure, transparent governance and industrial support initiatives.
He assured investors that the state government considers entrepreneurs and industrialists as key partners in Punjab’s economic growth and is committed to providing all possible support for setting up and expanding businesses.
Punjab Attracts ₹2 Lakh Crore Investment Commitments, Creating Five Lakh Jobs
Highlighting Punjab’s economic progress, Bhagwant Mann said the state has attracted investment commitments worth around ₹2 lakh crore in the last four years, which are expected to generate nearly five lakh employment opportunities.
He said the government has introduced several reforms to encourage industrial growth and make Punjab a preferred destination for investors.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the growth of Mohali’s technology ecosystem, saying the city is emerging as an important hub for technology, innovation and modern businesses.
Punjab Offers Investor-Friendly Policies and Strong Industrial Infrastructure
Bhagwant Mann said Punjab ranks among the leading states in Ease of Doing Business and provides several facilities to industries, including:
- Reliable and uninterrupted power supply
- Simplified approval processes
- Green stamp paper facility
- Transparent Single Window system
- Land and infrastructure support
- Investor facilitation services
He said Punjab has also become the first state to pass the Right to Business Act, aimed at providing faster approvals and reducing delays for entrepreneurs.
Government and Industry Must Work Together for Economic Growth
The Chief Minister said industrial development is possible only when the government and industry work together.
He stated that entrepreneurs and investors are among the key architects of Punjab’s industrial future and emphasized the importance of cooperation between:
- Industries
- Government agencies
- Academic institutions
- Research organisations
- Technology providers
- Skill development agencies
Mann said the government is focused on reducing compliance burdens and creating a transparent ecosystem for businesses.
Punjab Positioned as a Hub for Textile Manufacturing
Speaking at BharatTex 2026, Bhagwant Mann said textiles are not only an industry for Punjab but also a part of the state’s heritage, identity and economic strength.
He highlighted that Punjab has a complete textile value chain, covering:
- Cotton cultivation
- Spinning
- Yarn production
- Fabric manufacturing
- Knitting and processing
- Garment production
- Exports
According to the Chief Minister, very few regions globally have such an integrated textile ecosystem.
Punjab Contributes Significantly to India’s Textile Exports
Bhagwant Mann said Punjab continues to be one of India’s leading textile destinations and contributes nearly 4% of India’s textile and apparel exports.
The state recorded textile exports worth more than USD 1.2 billion during FY 2024-25, with products reaching international markets including:
- United States
- United Arab Emirates
- United Kingdom
- Other global markets
He credited farmers, entrepreneurs, MSMEs, workers and industrial pioneers for building Punjab’s strong textile foundation.
Ludhiana Remains a Major Textile and Apparel Hub
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of Ludhiana as one of North India’s largest apparel and knitwear clusters.
He said Ludhiana contributes nearly:
- 90% of India’s woollen knitwear production
- 65% of India’s hosiery production
Punjab is also home to several leading textile companies, including Vardhman, Sanathan Textiles, Nahar, Monte Carlo, Ganga Acrowool, Sportking, Shingora and Octave, which have established global standards in quality and innovation.
Punjab Focuses on Advanced Textile and Sustainable Manufacturing
Bhagwant Mann said Punjab has significant opportunities in emerging textile sectors, including:
- Technical textiles
- Industrial textiles
- Medical textiles
- Protective textiles
- Geotextiles
- Sustainable fibres
- Smart fabrics
- Functional apparel
- High-performance sportswear
He said the state government is working to promote innovation, sustainability and global competitiveness in the textile sector.
Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2026 Launched
The Chief Minister said the Punjab government has introduced the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2026 after consultations with industry stakeholders.
He said the policy focuses on:
- Improving industrial infrastructure
- Supporting investors
- Promoting skill development
- Encouraging innovation
- Increasing exports
- Strengthening manufacturing capabilities
He added that platforms like Invest Punjab and the FastTrack Punjab Portal are helping businesses receive faster and transparent approvals.
Punjab Aims to Become Preferred Destination for Global Investment
Bhagwant Mann said Punjab wants industries to expand beyond traditional markets and become more integrated with global supply chains.
He emphasized that industrial growth is not only about production but also about creating employment opportunities, empowering women and supporting inclusive economic development.
The Chief Minister invited investors, global brands, technology companies and innovators to become partners in Punjab’s next phase of industrial growth.
