Phillaur (Punjab): In a significant step towards strengthening citizen-centric policing and digital governance, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, an IPS officer of 1992 batch, on Wednesday launched the upgraded Saanjh Citizen Portal at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur.
The launch marks a major technological upgrade in the delivery of police services to citizens across Punjab. Alongside the portal launch, the DGP also flagged off a fleet of 93 electric scooters for women police personnel serving under the Punjab Police Mahila Mitra initiative and Women Help Desks.
The twin initiatives reflect Punjab Police’s continued focus on leveraging technology, improving public service delivery, and strengthening women-centric policing mechanisms across the state.
Upgraded Saanjh Portal Introduces 14 New Features
The revamped Saanjh Citizen Portal has been designed to make police services more accessible, transparent and efficient for citizens.
According to Punjab Police, the upgraded platform incorporates 14 new features aimed at simplifying interactions between citizens and the police department.
Among the most notable additions is the introduction of Aadhaar-enabled eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification, which is expected to significantly streamline various police verification services.
The portal also introduces dedicated services for senior citizens, enabling easier access to police assistance and welfare-related services.
The digital platform is expected to reduce paperwork, improve response times and facilitate online delivery of various citizen services.
Focus on Digital Transformation in Policing
The launch of the upgraded portal is part of Punjab Police’s broader effort to modernize public service delivery through technology-driven solutions.
By integrating digital verification systems and online service mechanisms, the department aims to enhance convenience for citizens while ensuring faster processing of applications and requests.
Officials believe that technology-enabled policing can improve transparency, strengthen accountability and reduce the need for physical visits to police offices for routine services.
The Saanjh initiative has long served as a key interface between Punjab Police and the public, and the latest upgrade is expected to further enhance its effectiveness.
DGP Flags Off 93 Electric Scooters for Women Police Personnel
In another major initiative, DGP Gaurav Yadav flagged off a fleet of 93 electric scooters that will be deployed for women police personnel managing Punjab Police Mahila Mitra units and Women Help Desks across the state.
The move is aimed at enhancing mobility, improving outreach and enabling women police personnel to respond more effectively to public grievances and women-related issues.
The electric vehicles are expected to assist officers in conducting field visits, awareness campaigns and community engagement programmes more efficiently.
Senior Officers Attend Launch Event
The event was attended by several senior Punjab Police officers, including:
- Special DGP, Community Affairs Division, Gurpreet Kaur Deo
- Senior officers of Punjab Police
- Officials associated with the Saanjh programme
- Representatives from women policing initiatives
The presence of senior leadership underscored the importance attached to citizen services and community-oriented policing within the state police force.
Strengthening Women-Centric Policing
Punjab Police has been expanding its focus on women’s safety and support services through dedicated Mahila Mitra units and Women Help Desks.
The deployment of electric scooters is expected to strengthen these initiatives by providing greater operational flexibility to women police personnel working on issues related to women’s safety, awareness and assistance.
Officials believe improved mobility will help women officers maintain closer contact with communities and facilitate quicker responses to complaints.
Citizen Services Expected to Become More Efficient
With Aadhaar-enabled eKYC, senior citizen services and multiple new digital features, the upgraded Saanjh Portal is expected to make several police services more user-friendly and efficient.
The platform is likely to benefit citizens seeking police verifications and other public services by reducing procedural delays and improving accessibility.
Punjab Police officials described the initiative as another step toward building a modern, technology-enabled and citizen-focused policing ecosystem in the state.
Punjab Police Continues Modernisation Drive
The launch of the upgraded Saanjh Citizen Portal and the induction of electric scooters form part of Punjab Police’s ongoing modernization efforts.
Over the years, the force has increasingly adopted digital technologies, community engagement models and specialized support mechanisms to improve service delivery and strengthen public trust.
With the latest upgrades, Punjab Police aims to further improve citizen convenience while enhancing operational efficiency and responsiveness across the state.
