Jaipur: Rajasthan has recorded an overall decline of 4.65% in crimes registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) during the first six months of 2026, according to Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer of 1990 batch, who presented the Rajasthan Police’s six-month performance report on Monday. Alongside the encouraging decline in major crimes, the state police also announced an intensified crackdown on narcotics networks, organised crime, cyber fraud, and illegal arms while shifting its policing strategy from reactive enforcement to proactive crime prevention.
Addressing a press conference at the Rajasthan Police Academy, Sharma said 94,652 BNS cases were registered between January and June 2026 compared to 99,272 cases during the corresponding period in 2025. While BNS crimes declined, cases under local and special laws increased by 4.25%, rising from 49,087 to 51,172, indicating more aggressive enforcement by law enforcement agencies.
Sharp Decline in Major Crimes Across Rajasthan
The six-month crime statistics reflect improvements across several categories of serious offences.
According to Rajasthan Police data:
- Murder cases declined by 4.41%, falling from 702 to 672.
- Attempt to murder cases reduced by 11.17%, dropping to 1,145.
- Dacoity cases decreased by 16.28%, with only 36 incidents reported.
- Robbery cases fell by 19.93%, reducing to 462.
- Kidnapping and abduction cases declined by 4.72%, with 4,965 cases registered.
- Rape cases witnessed a significant 13.36% decline, falling from 2,088 to 1,809.
- POCSO cases recorded one of the steepest declines, reducing by 20.90% to 1,306.
- Cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act also declined by 18.81%, reaching 2,534.
The DGP said the downward trend indicates sustained improvements in policing, intelligence gathering, and preventive measures across the state.
Women Safer in Rajasthan: Significant Fall in Crimes Against Women
Highlighting women’s safety, DGP Sharma said Rajasthan has witnessed noticeable improvements during the first half of 2026.
Overall crimes against women declined by 6.44%, while rape cases reduced by more than 13% and POCSO offences by nearly 21% compared to the same period last year.
He attributed the improvement to several specialised initiatives launched by Rajasthan Police, including:
- Kalika Patrol Unit
- Anti Romeo Squad
- One Stop Crisis Centre
- Suraksha Sakhi
- Mahila Sal Suraksha Kendra
Special statewide campaigns such as Operation Garima and Operation Khushi also played an important role in strengthening women’s safety and preventing crimes against women and children.
Faster Investigation in Rape and POCSO Cases
The DGP said Rajasthan Police has significantly reduced investigation timelines in sensitive crimes.
The average investigation period:
Rape Cases
- 2024-25: 81 days
- 2025-26: 52 days
POCSO Cases
- 2024-25: 78.2 days
- 2025-26: 51.2 days
The faster investigations are expected to facilitate quicker prosecution and improve justice delivery for victims.
Recovery of Stolen Property Improves Significantly
Rajasthan Police also reported remarkable improvements in recovering stolen property.
Recovery rates improved substantially:
- Robbery recovery: increased from 71% to 79.09%
- Burglary recovery: jumped dramatically from 9.58% to 58.24%
- Overall stolen property recovery: increased from 10.34% to 24.79%
According to Sharma, enhanced investigative techniques and technology-based policing have contributed significantly to these improvements.
Massive Crackdown on Drug Trafficking and Illegal Arms
One of the key focus areas of Rajasthan Police during 2026 has been dismantling organised narcotics networks.
During the review period:
- 7,195 NDPS Act cases were registered, marking a 29.94% increase over last year.
- 6,700 Arms Act cases were registered.
- 24,811 Excise Act cases were recorded.
The increase reflects intensified enforcement rather than increased criminal activity, officials clarified.
Drug Mafias Face Property Attachment
DGP Sharma announced that Rajasthan Police has shifted its strategy from merely arresting drug traffickers to targeting their financial assets.
During 2025-26:
- 34 organised narcotics cases were registered.
- 83 accused were arrested.
- 224 drug trafficking hotspots across 20 districts were identified and targeted.
- Properties worth ₹7.36 crore linked to alleged drug traffickers were demolished or attached in 15 cases during 2026.
Going forward, Rajasthan Police will increasingly use provisions under the BNSS, BNS, and the PIT-NDPS Act to attach properties allegedly acquired through narcotics trafficking.
Cyber Policing Gets Major Boost
The state government has significantly strengthened Rajasthan’s cybercrime infrastructure.
The DGP announced that the government has sanctioned ₹100 crore for establishing the Rajasthan Cyber Crime Control Centre (R4C) along with an AI-enabled 1930 Cyber Helpline Call Centre.
Major cyber policing achievements include:
- Cyber Police Stations established in all 41 police districts.
- Cyber Help Desks operational at every police station.
- 405 online Zero FIRs registered for cyber frauds involving up to ₹5 lakh since the facility was launched in January 2026.
- 1.84 lakh lost mobile phones traced.
- 61,346 mobile phones returned to their rightful owners.
- More than 1.25 lakh SIM cards blocked.
- Around 1.19 lakh IMEI numbers disabled after being linked to cybercrime.
The new R4C is expected to integrate artificial intelligence, digital forensics, cyber intelligence, and rapid response capabilities under one umbrella.
ATS Continues Anti-Terror Operations
The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) also remained active during the review period.
According to the DGP:
- Three UAPA cases were registered.
- Three accused were arrested.
Multiple operations were conducted against:
- Illegal explosives
- Arms trafficking
- Fake Aadhaar networks
Additionally:
- 728 individuals were monitored for suspicious online activities.
- 15 youths underwent de-radicalisation interventions.
Technology-Driven Smart Policing to Be the Future
Presenting Rajasthan Police’s future roadmap, DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma said the force is moving beyond traditional policing.
He said the objective is no longer limited to solving crimes after they occur but to prevent crimes before they happen.
“Our highest priority will now be crime prevention, breaking the economic backbone of criminals and implementing technology-based smart policing,” Sharma said.
The future priorities include:
- Property attachment of drug traffickers.
- Stronger action by the Anti-Gangster Task Force against organised crime and extortion.
- Extradition of wanted criminals operating from foreign countries.
- Expansion of cyber policing infrastructure through the Rajasthan Cyber Crime Control Centre.
- Greater use of artificial intelligence and digital investigation tools.
Shift Towards Preventive Policing
The six-month report card reflects Rajasthan Police’s broader transformation towards intelligence-led, technology-enabled and preventive policing.
With declining violent crimes, improved investigation timelines, stronger cyber capabilities and aggressive action against organised narcotics networks, the state police aim to build a system where crime prevention becomes as important as crime detection.
The proposed Rajasthan Cyber Crime Control Centre, enhanced financial action against drug cartels, and continued focus on women’s safety are expected to remain the key pillars of Rajasthan Police’s strategy in the coming months.
