The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing two major 2015 Faridkot cases linked to the sacrilege incidents has summoned former Union Minister of State and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sampla, along with two retired IAS officers, for questioning.
All three have been asked to appear before the SIT in Jalandhar on June 22.

Summons Issued Under BNSS
According to official notices issued under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Sampla has been directed to appear at 11 am at the Gos Mess, PAP Complex, Jalandhar, for examination and recording of his statement.
The SIT stated that it believes Sampla may be acquainted with facts and circumstances relevant to the ongoing investigation.
Two Key FIRs Under Investigation
The summons are linked to two high-profile FIRs registered in October 2015 during the fallout of the sacrilege incidents in Faridkot district.
The first, FIR No. 129, registered at Bajakhana police station on October 14, 2015, includes charges related to attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, damage to public property and violations under the Arms Act.
The second, FIR No. 130, registered on October 21, 2015, pertains to charges under Sections 302, 307 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code along with Arms Act provisions.
These cases are among the most politically sensitive investigations in Punjab’s recent history.
Retired IAS Officers Also Called
Alongside Sampla, the SIT has also summoned retired IAS officers Malwinder Singh Jaggi and Gagandeep Singh Brar for questioning on the same day.
Officials have not disclosed the exact reasons for their summons, stating only that their statements are required as part of the probe.
Sampla Assures Cooperation
Confirming that he had received the notice, Vijay Sampla said he would cooperate fully with the investigation.
He stated that while he was not aware of the specific details of the case in which he had been summoned, he respected the legal process and would appear before the SIT as directed.
Fresh Scrutiny in Long-Pending Cases
The SIT is currently re-examining multiple aspects of the 2015 sacrilege-related violence and police firing incidents, which have remained under legal and political scrutiny for over a decade.
Officials indicated that failure to appear before the SIT could invite action under relevant legal provisions.
The latest summons signal renewed momentum in one of Punjab’s most contentious and closely watched investigations.
