Lucknow: Following a fire incident in the Aliganj area of Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Uttar Pradesh administration to launch a strict, statewide fire safety audit campaign. The Chief Minister emphasized that public safety will not be compromised under any circumstances and warned of strict action against violations of fire safety norms.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting with senior officials after the unfortunate incident in the state capital.

Mission-Mode Fire Safety Audit Across Uttar Pradesh

The Chief Minister ordered a “mission mode” fire safety inspection drive across all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The campaign will focus on identifying violations in commercial, educational, and residential buildings.

Key directives include:

  • Comprehensive fire safety audits in all districts
  • Strict enforcement of building-use permissions
  • Mandatory compliance with fire safety norms
  • Display of Fire Department NOC in commercial buildings

Officials have been instructed to ensure that safety regulations are strictly followed without exceptions.

Ban on Unauthorized Activities in Basements

A major highlight of the directive is a strict ban on unauthorized use of basements.

The Chief Minister clearly stated that:

  • Coaching centres will not be allowed in basements
  • Nursing homes cannot operate in basement spaces
  • Commercial activities in basements are strictly prohibited
  • Basements approved for parking must be used only for parking vehicles

The move aims to prevent fire hazards in illegally converted or unsafe underground spaces.

Registration of Coaching Centres Made Mandatory

The state government has also directed that all coaching institutes must be registered. Authorities will ensure that:

  • All coaching centres are properly registered
  • Safety norms are strictly followed
  • Fire clearance requirements are met before operation

This step is aimed at improving accountability in the growing coaching industry across Uttar Pradesh.

Awareness First, Action Later Policy

CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized a balanced approach of enforcement, stating that officials must first focus on awareness and compliance.

He directed that:

  • Special teams will inspect buildings in every district
  • Citizens and business owners should be educated about safety norms
  • Adequate time must be given to correct deficiencies
  • Legal action will be taken only after awareness and warning

The Chief Minister stressed that the campaign should not result in unnecessary harassment of the public.

Focus on Electrical Safety and Short-Circuit Prevention

To reduce fire risks, the Chief Minister also instructed authorities to inspect electrical systems in commercial buildings.

Key measures include:

  • Checking electrical load capacity
  • Preventing overload and short-circuit incidents
  • Ensuring safe wiring standards in buildings

These steps aim to address one of the most common causes of urban fires.

Faster Emergency Response Systems Directed

The Chief Minister reviewed emergency preparedness and instructed departments to reduce response time for fire and rescue operations.

He directed improvements in:

  • Fire brigade response efficiency
  • Ambulance services
  • State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployment

Officials informed that out of 350 tehsils in Uttar Pradesh, 296 already have functional fire stations, while new stations are being developed in remaining areas.

Strong Push for Public Safety in Uttar Pradesh

The statewide fire safety audit marks a significant step toward strengthening urban safety infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. With strict enforcement of building norms and improved emergency response systems, the government aims to reduce fire-related incidents and ensure better protection of human lives.
