Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as India’s next Skill Hub, with the state government integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, drone technology, 3D printing and semiconductors into Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and skill development centres.
The initiative is aimed at preparing young people for future industries while supporting the state’s broader ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy. According to the government, more than 3.25 crore youth and artisans have already been linked to employment and self-employment opportunities, while over 9 lakh people have secured government jobs through a transparent recruitment process during the past nine years.
Professor Sanjay Singh Baghel of Delhi University highlighted these initiatives in an article published in Dainik Bhaskar, noting that the state’s strategy focuses on equipping youth with industry-relevant skills rather than relying solely on traditional employment avenues.
AI, Robotics and Drone Training in ITIs
The state government has expanded the curriculum of ITIs and skill development centres to include cutting-edge technologies that are increasingly in demand across industries.
New-age courses now include:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Robotics
- Drone Technology
- 3D Printing
- Semiconductor Technology
The objective is to ensure that young people acquire skills aligned with evolving industrial requirements and emerging sectors.

- More than 3.25 crore youth and artisans have been connected with employment and self-employment opportunities.
The government says these initiatives are aligned with its vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a $1 trillion economy.
Traditional Industries Get a Modern Market
Alongside modern skill development, the government is also working to strengthen traditional industries through the One District One Product (ODOP) programme.
The initiative aims to provide better market access for region-specific products, including:
- Moradabad brassware
- Firozabad glass products
- Meerut sports goods
- Bhadohi carpets
- Lucknow Chikan embroidery
- Azamgarh black pottery
- Banarasi sarees
According to the government, artisans and MSMEs are benefiting from improved market linkages under the programme.
Modern Skills Reach Smaller Districts
The expansion of technical education is no longer confined to major urban centres.
The government says advanced skill training programmes are being introduced in districts including:
- Mahoba
- Chitrakoot
- Sonbhadra
- Ballia
- Bahraich
Special language training and placement support are also being provided for young people seeking overseas employment, particularly in Japan.
Digital Platforms to Improve Skill Development
To streamline skill development programmes, the state is developing digital platforms such as Kaushal Setu and Kaushal Sarthi.
These portals are intended to bring together:
- Registration of training institutes
- Information on available courses
- District-wise training centres
- Employment-related services
The government says the digital platforms will improve transparency and make skill-related information more accessible to job seekers.
Government Highlights Key Achievements
According to the Uttar Pradesh government:
- Over 9 lakh youth have secured government employment.
- More than 3.25 crore youth and artisans have been linked with employment and self-employment.
- The state has over 96 lakh MSME units, which form a major pillar of its economy.
- ITIs and skill centres now offer courses in AI, robotics, drones, 3D printing and semiconductor technology.
- The ODOP initiative is helping connect traditional industries with national and international markets.
Why the Skill Hub Model Matters
Experts believe that the availability of a skilled workforce is one of the most important factors influencing investment decisions.
A well-trained talent pool enables industries to recruit locally, reduces skill gaps and supports faster industrial growth. Uttar Pradesh’s strategy seeks to integrate skill development with MSMEs, manufacturing, investment promotion and employment generation, positioning human capital as a central driver of long-term economic growth.
