Dehradun: In a major welfare announcement, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared that the honorarium of Anganwadi workers in Uttarakhand will be increased. The announcement was made during a special session of the state assembly, bringing relief and happiness among thousands of Anganwadi employees across the state.
Big Relief for Anganwadi Workers and Helpers
The Chief Minister confirmed that the government is committed to improving the financial condition of Anganwadi workers and helpers. While the exact revised amount is yet to be officially detailed, the move is being seen as a significant step toward strengthening grassroots-level women workers.
Currently:
- Anganwadi workers receive ₹9,600 per month
- Helpers receive ₹5,200 per month
Previous Salary Hike and Recruitment Drive
The Uttarakhand government had earlier increased honorariums in 2021:
- ₹1,800 increase for Anganwadi workers
- ₹1,500 increase for helpers
In addition, the government recently carried out a large recruitment drive, appointing thousands of Anganwadi workers to strengthen child welfare and nutrition services in rural and urban areas.
Government Focus on Women Empowerment
Highlighting the intent behind the decision, Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the government remains sensitive toward women’s welfare and empowerment.
He emphasized that:
- Women are being encouraged to grow across all sectors
- Government policies are enabling women to achieve new milestones
- Welfare schemes aim to improve their financial and social status
Political Reactions and Opposition Criticism
During the session, the Chief Minister also addressed criticism from opposition parties. He rejected allegations and asserted that the government is serious about protecting the interests of Anganwadi workers.
He further criticized opposition parties, including Congress, over their stance on the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that political interests have delayed key reforms in the past.
