In a major step forward for wildlife conservation, the Tamil Nadu government has announced the establishment of the TN Endangered Species Conservation Fund (TNESCF), the first of its kind in India. IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared about the announcement on the social media platform X.
With an initial corpus of Rs. 50 crore, the fund aims to protect and recover lesser-known species facing extinction threats. The initiative comes as a welcome addition to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department’s ongoing conservation efforts.
Ms. Sahu, in her post, wrote: “This will be yet another solid initiative to conserve lesser known species. Government of TN will contribute Rs 5 Crore as seed money while the rest will be pooled from CSR etc.”
