Before delving any further lets make it amply clear that this interview was conducted sometime before the government cancelled the recruitment to 45 posts through lateral entry. But, Mr Gupta’s views are as relevant now as they were before the government’s decision.
Mr Gupta is author of The Steel Frame, A History of The IAS, an encyclopaedia on the IAS. He held the post of UPSC Chairman from 2014 and 2016 and still continues to conduct interviews for many positions being conducted by the UPSC.
In this interview he has delved upon many controversial issues like whether candidates once selected through UPSC CSE be allowed to appear in UPSC again to improve their rank – year after year? Can corruption in bureaucracy be checked through training? Why common Foundation Course for all services? Is Horse riding a part of training programme relevant now?
