In the quiet yet vibrant district of Kapurthala, Punjab, a police officer is on a mission that goes beyond maintaining law and order. IPS Gaurav Toora, a 2014 batch Punjab cadre officer and the current Senior Superintendent of Police of Kapurthala, is determined to shape the future of the district’s youth. His goal is simple yet profound: to guide young minds away from negative influences and toward a path of positivity, education, and sports.

For Toora, this isn’t just a professional duty; it’s a personal passion. “We want to motivate the youth towards sports and education,” he says with conviction. “If we can channel their energy into constructive activities, we can prevent them from falling into the traps of drugs and crime.”

A HANDS-ON APPROACH TO CHANGE

What sets Toora apart is his hands-on approach. He doesn’t just delegate tasks; he immerses himself in the community. From visiting schools and colleges to organizing awareness campaigns, Toora is a familiar face in Kapurthala’s neighborhoods.

“I believe in being present, in speaking directly to the people. When I interact with the youth, I see their potential. They just need the right guidance and opportunities,” he shared.

Under his leadership, Kapurthala has seen a surge in outreach programs. Collaborations with NGOs, educational institutions, and local organizations have become the backbone of his initiatives. From anti-drug campaigns to career counseling sessions, Toora’s team is working tirelessly to create a supportive environment for the youth.

PLANTING SEEDS OF CHANGE

Recognizing the importance of early intervention, Toora has launched extensive school and college outreach programs. His team regularly visits educational institutions, engaging with students and encouraging them to make better life choices.

“We talk to them about the dangers of drugs, the importance of education, and the value of staying physically active,” he explains. “It’s not about lecturing them; it’s about having a conversation. We want them to feel heard and understood.”

One such initiative is the “Say No to Drugs” campaign, which has gained significant traction in the district. Through workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions, Toora and his team are breaking down the stigma around discussing addiction and mental health.

SPORTS AS A TOOL FOR TRANSFORMATION

Toora firmly believes that sports can be a powerful tool to keep the youth engaged and focused. “Sports teach discipline, teamwork, and perseverance,” he says. “If we can get more young people involved in sports, we can keep them away from negative influences.”

To make this a reality, he has partnered with local sports clubs and schools to organize tournaments and training programs. These events not only provide a platform for young athletes but also foster a sense of community and belonging.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

For IPS Gaurav Toora, this is just the beginning. His vision for Kapurthala’s youth is ambitious yet achievable. “I want to see every young person in this district thriving, pursuing their dreams, and contributing to society,” he says. “It’s not going to happen overnight, but with consistent effort, we can make a difference.”

His dedication has already started to yield results. More young people are participating in sports, attending awareness programs, and seeking guidance for their future. The community, too, has rallied behind his efforts, recognizing the importance of his mission.

A LEADER WHO LEADS BY EXAMPLE

What makes Toora’s work truly impactful is his authenticity. He doesn’t just talk the talk; he walks the walk. Whether it’s spending hours at a local school or brainstorming new ideas with his team, Toora is fully invested in his mission.

In a world where the youth often face overwhelming challenges, IPS Gaurav Toora stands as a guiding light for Kapurthala. As the city’s youth continue to find their footing, one thing is clear: with leaders like Gaurav Toora at the helm, their future is in safe hands.
