Anukruti Singh was doing her PhD in USA with thoughts of becoming a scientist one day, when destiny took over and brought her back to her home country. And, today, she is a civil servant who is giving nightmares to criminals. She might have taken 7 years to become an IPS officer, but in her three years of service, she has made a name for herself already. That of a police officer who is changing the face of UP women police.

The 2020-batch officer is the torch bearer of gender equality in UP Police. Her initiatives are not only helping the common people, but also giving good vibes to the women police personnel in the department.

Ms. Sharma originally hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Her parents were in the government sector. Her father was a statistician in the Plannning Department, while her mother was a government teacher. Her basic schooling was done in Jaipur while she passed 12th from Indo Bharat International School in Jaipur.

She cracked IIT JEE and got admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Kolkata for ‘integrated BSMS’ for 5 years. After that, she applied for PhD from Rice University Houston Texas, USA. Her research topic was ‘Origination of Hawaii and Volcanoes.’

She gave a total of 6 attempts in UPSC CSE. In 2018, she got into IRS. And, in 2020, she was allotted IPS.
She and her husband Vaibhav Mishra, from Varanasi, were together from IISER days. Her friendship gradually turned into love. Their families put a condition before their marriage – that of going abroad. So, both of them got married in a hurry in 2013, and then went to USA together for their PhD. Both also prepared together for UPSC after returning from the USA. But, unfortunately, her husband did not get selected and now teaches in a civil services coaching institute in Varanasi.

Recently transferred to Sambhal as ASP, Ms. Sharma shared about her family, her love story, what brought her back to India, and how she got into IPS after 6 attempts, in this exclusive video interview to Indian Masterminds.
