NEW DELHI: The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 68 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for holding the post of Inspector General (IG) or equivalent at the Centre. The approval was granted on May 26, 2026.
The empanelment includes IPS officers from the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008 batches belonging to various state cadres across India. Notably, the highest number of officers empanelled belong to the 2008 batch.
Officers from Initial Leftover Category
The following officers were cleared under the “Initial Leftover” category:
- Soorya Thankappan (2001: Odisha Cadre)
- Akhilesh Kumar Jha (2003: Jharkhand Cadre)
- Vikramjit Singh (2004: AGMUT Cadre)
- Vikas Kumar (2004: Rajasthan Cadre)
- Patel Mayur Kanaiya Lal (2007: Jharkhand Cadre)

A majority of the empanelled officers are from the 2008 IPS batch. These officers belong to cadres including AGMUT, Assam-Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and others.
