Chhattisgarh: The Innovation 1.0 program held in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, has emerged as a major step toward transforming the region into an innovation and startup hub. Addressed by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister OP Chaudhary, the event carried a strong message for youth: instead of seeking jobs, they should focus on creating employment opportunities through entrepreneurship.
Held at Shaheed Mahendra Karma Bastar University in Jagdalpur, the two-day event brought together experts, students, and even rehabilitated former Maoists, highlighting a broad vision of inclusive development and innovation-driven growth.
Bastar to Become an Innovation and Startup Hub
The government has positioned Bastar as a potential innovation hub under its long-term development strategy. CM Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that the region has no shortage of talent, only the need for the right direction and opportunities.
He said the state’s Startup and Innovation Promotion Policy 2025–30 will provide comprehensive support to young entrepreneurs, including:
- Financial assistance
- Skill development and training
- Market access and business networking
- End-to-end support from idea to startup execution
The initiative aims to strengthen the startup ecosystem and accelerate self-employment in tribal and rural regions.
Shift from Job Seeking to Job Creation
A key theme of the event was encouraging youth to move away from traditional job-seeking mindsets. Officials highlighted that nearly two lakh youths in the Bastar division are currently unemployed, making entrepreneurship a critical solution.
Chief Minister Sai urged young people to:
- Start their own ventures
- Generate employment for others
- Take calculated risks in business and innovation
He stressed that entrepreneurship is essential for both personal growth and regional development.
Strong Focus on Local Resources and Rural Economy
Finance Minister OP Chaudhary highlighted Bastar’s immense potential in forest produce, agriculture, tourism, and handicrafts. He encouraged youth to build businesses based on local resources and traditional strengths. According to him, innovation in these sectors can transform the regional economy while preserving cultural identity. He also emphasized that risk-taking and experimentation are key to success in entrepreneurship.
Bastar Development Roadmap: Education, Infrastructure & Employment
The state government presented a broader development roadmap for Bastar, focusing on:
- Employment generation
- Improved education infrastructure
- Startup ecosystem expansion
- Rural development through the “Niyad Nellanar 2.0” scheme
The plan is expected to improve basic facilities in villages and strengthen grassroots development across multiple districts.
Tourism and Culture as Growth Engines
Bastar’s natural beauty and cultural richness were highlighted as major drivers of future economic growth. Officials noted that the region has strong potential for:
- Eco-tourism
- Organic farming
- Tribal art and handicrafts
The government is working on targeted policies to promote tourism and cultural industries, positioning Bastar as a major destination comparable to leading eco-tourism regions in India.
Large Participation and Inclusive Engagement
The Innovation 1.0 program witnessed participation from:
- Around 50 national experts
- Over 1,000 students
- Nearly 200 rehabilitated Maoists
Their involvement reflects the government’s attempt to integrate diverse sections of society into the mainstream development process.
Chief Minister Sai stated that Bastar’s future will be shaped by youth-led innovation, especially in the post-insurgency development phase.
Vision for a Developed Bastar
CM Vishnu Deo Sai reiterated the government’s vision to make Bastar one of the best tribal regions in the country. He noted that:
- Industrial development is progressing rapidly
- Major investment MoUs worth ₹8 lakh crore have been signed
- Thousands of jobs have already been created through new industries
He also mentioned that further surveys and development projects will be undertaken in previously underdeveloped areas like Abujhmad.
A New Era of Innovation in Bastar
The Innovation 1.0 program marks a strategic shift in Bastar’s development approach—from dependency on jobs to self-reliance through innovation and entrepreneurship. With the implementation of the Startup Policy 2025–30, focus on local resources, and growing industrial investment, Bastar is being positioned as a future center for youth-driven economic transformation in Chhattisgarh.
