Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has carried out a significant administrative reshuffle in the Trade and Taxes (GST) Department following allegations of corruption, negligence, and serious irregularities. The decision comes after a surprise inspection at the ITO-based State GST office, where multiple lapses were reportedly observed.
Acting on the findings, the Chief Minister ordered the transfer of 162 officers and employees, including three Assistant Commissioners who had been posted in the department for more than three years.
Surprise Inspection at ITO Office Triggered Action
The major reshuffle was initiated after CM Rekha Gupta conducted an unannounced inspection of the State GST office located at ITO on April 8. During the visit, she reportedly found multiple administrative irregularities and lapses in functioning.
Following the inspection, the government decided to take immediate corrective action to improve transparency and efficiency in the department.
162 Officials Transferred Across Multiple Cadres
The large-scale transfer order includes officials from several administrative levels. According to the government notification, the reshuffle covers:
- 58 Grade-1 Section Officers
- 22 Grade-2 Assistant Section Officers
- 74 Grade-3 Senior Assistants
- 5 Grade-4 Junior Assistants
- 3 Assistant Commissioners
All three Assistant Commissioners had been serving in the same department for an extended period, which was also cited as a reason for their transfer.
The government has stated that the move is aimed at breaking long-standing postings and ensuring better administrative accountability.
Biometric Attendance Made Mandatory for Staff
As part of the reform measures, the Chief Minister has also directed that biometric attendance will now be mandatory for all officers and employees in the department.
This step is intended to improve discipline, transparency, and monitoring within government offices, particularly in revenue-related departments like GST.
CM Rekha Gupta Emphasizes Transparency and Accountability
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reiterated that ensuring transparency and accountability in governance remains her government’s top priority. She made it clear that corruption or negligence at any level will not be tolerated.
She also stated that surprise inspections will continue in the future and strict action will be taken against any official found guilty of dereliction of duty or involvement in irregularities.
Government Signals Continued Crackdown on Irregularities
The large-scale reshuffle in the GST department signals a stronger administrative push by the Delhi government to tighten internal systems and improve service delivery.
Officials have indicated that more such inspections and corrective actions may follow in other departments as well, as part of the government’s broader governance reform strategy.
