New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heatwave conditions at isolated places in the national capital for tomorrow, with the maximum temperature expected to rise up to 42 degrees Celsius.
The warning comes amid intensifying summer conditions across northern India, raising concerns about public health and safety.
Delhi Government Activates Heatwave Safety Measures
In response to the alert, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that detailed guidelines have been issued to all departments to ensure public safety during extreme heat conditions.
She directed authorities to implement immediate preventive measures across workplaces, schools, transport systems, and healthcare facilities.
Workplaces Asked to Ensure Worker Safety
Under directions from the Labour Ministry, employers have been instructed to:
- Provide adequate rest between 1 PM and 4 PM
- Ensure availability of drinking water
- Arrange shaded and cool resting spaces
- Maintain basic safety facilities for outdoor workers
These steps aim to reduce heat-related illness among daily wage and outdoor workers.
Schools Directed to Protect Students from Heat
The government has instructed schools to adopt heat safety protocols, including:
- Continuous availability of clean drinking water
- Proper classroom ventilation and functioning fans
- Heat-appropriate clothing guidelines
- Distribution of ORS solutions before students leave school
These measures are designed to prevent dehydration and heatstroke among children.
Transport Department Sets Up Water Stations
The Transport Department has been directed to install water counters at bus stops across Delhi, where commuters will be provided with:
- Cold drinking water
- ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution)
This initiative aims to support passengers during peak afternoon heat hours.
Hospitals Put on High Alert for Heat-Related Emergencies
Rekha Gupta assured that all hospitals in the city are fully prepared to handle heatwave-related emergencies.
She said that:
- Essential medicines are in stock
- Emergency facilities are ready
- Medical staff are on alert
- Heatstroke treatment systems are in place
Water Supply Systems Fully Operational
The Chief Minister also confirmed that all water resources and supply systems in the city will remain fully functional to meet increased demand during the heatwave period.
