Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a major relief initiative to help residents cope with the intense heatwave sweeping the capital. On Wednesday, she flagged off 13 Mobile Heat Relief Units from the Delhi Secretariat, aimed at providing immediate support to people exposed to extreme summer conditions.
Relief on Wheels for Heatwave-Affected Citizens
These mobile units are designed to reach different parts of the city and offer on-the-spot assistance to those affected by the heat.
Each unit will provide:
- Cold and clean drinking water
- ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets
- Basic first aid facilities
- Cotton towels (gamchas) and caps for sun protection
The initiative is focused on reducing heat-related health risks such as dehydration and heatstroke.

Heat Action Plan Booklet Released
Along with the mobile units, the government also released a Heat Action Plan booklet to raise awareness about heatwave safety measures.
The booklet provides guidance on how to stay safe during extreme heat and encourages people to take necessary precautions.
Emergency Help via 112 Helpline
The government has also made emergency support more accessible. Citizens can contact the 112 helpline number in case of any heat-related emergency to access services from the mobile units.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also urged people to take care of themselves and their families, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun.
Special Focus on Outdoor Workers
The Chief Minister expressed particular concern for workers who have to remain outdoors under harsh sunlight for long hours.
She also directed all public and private organizations to avoid work between 1 PM and 4 PM, when heat conditions are most severe.
Strong Step Towards Heatwave Preparedness
This initiative is part of Delhi’s broader effort to strengthen heatwave preparedness and reduce health risks during extreme summer conditions. The mobile units are expected to provide quick relief and improve public safety across all districts of the city.
