New Delhi: Renowned IAS officer Raju Narayana Swamy, widely known as Kerala’s anti-corruption crusader and a firebrand administrator, delivered an inspiring address to young people at the ‘Youth for Bharath’ programme organised by Samanvaya in Bengaluru.
Speaking on the theme “Leadership Through Courage and Integrity,” Dr. Swamy reminded the audience that youth represents “the pleasant spring of life, with joy stirring in its dancing blood,” a period when nature invites individuals “with a thousand songs to share her general feast.”
“Leadership Is Action, Not Position”
Addressing students and young professionals at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Dr. Swamy emphasized that true leadership is defined by action rather than designation.
“Leadership is action, not position,” he said, urging the younger generation to break barriers and create opportunities for those who follow.
He added, “Every ceiling must become a floor on which the next generation must walk as a matter of right.”
Swami Vivekananda’s Vision for India’s Youth
Drawing extensively from Indian scriptures and the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, Dr. Swamy quoted the iconic message:
“What India wants is men and women with muscles of iron, nerves of steel and gigantic wills which nothing can resist.”
He concluded his lecture with another well-known Vivekananda quote:
“Take up one idea, think of it, live it, breathe it… That is the secret of success.”
Every Child Is a Precious Gift
Dr. Swamy also cited spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, highlighting the importance of nurturing every child with understanding and compassion.
“Look at children as packed gifts… no box is empty.”
He said that each young person possesses unique potential that must be recognized and developed.
Science and Spirituality Must Go Together
One of the central themes of the address was the need to balance scientific inquiry with human values and spirituality.
According to Dr. Swamy, science is a vital tool for understanding the world, but it becomes incomplete when separated from humanism.
“Science without humanism is meaningless,” he told the audience, urging youth to pursue both technological advancement and moral development.
A Message of Purpose and Integrity
The lecture resonated strongly with attendees as Dr. Swamy encouraged young Indians to cultivate courage, integrity, discipline, and a singular focus on their goals.
His address reinforced the idea that the nation’s future depends on youth who combine intellectual excellence with ethical leadership.
