About a week ago, the 1989 batch IPS officer, P Ravindranath, had resigned after his batchmate, T. Suneel Kumar who was promoted to the DGP rank just two days prior to his retirement. He had kicked off a row over promotions in the police department. But On 7th November, Friday, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) withdrew his resignation after meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa.
Mr. Ravindranath has resigned thrice and withdrawn as many times in the last 12 years. After meeting with Yediyurappa, Ravindranath declared that he had decided to withdraw his resignation after the CM assured him to redress his grievances. “It was a healthy discussion between us. He (CM) has assured me that all my issues will be redressed. If he fails to redress, I will resign again,” he stated.
He had made the headlines in a bad light in 2014 when he was caught clicking pictures of two young women in a coffee shop in Bengaluru. One of the women had registered a complaint against him and he declared his resignation in protest.
Earlier, in 2008, the IPS officer who was an IG then had resigned protesting the mishandling of his senior colleague.’ The trigger was an argument between Ravindranath and his boss who was an ADGP, administration, B E Umapathy. He had accused Umapathy of not granting him leave even though he had a medical emergency at his place. Later, he withdrew his resignation.
