Dausa/Jaipur: Dausa mining controversy has taken a major turn after Rajasthan government admitted before the Supreme Court that field authorities had “prima facie” failed to take effective action on repeated complaints related to illegal mining and stone crushing activities in the Aravalli region.
The admission came after the Supreme Court strongly warned the state administration and sought accountability from senior officials.
Background of Dausa Mining Controversy
The matter is linked to alleged illegal mining and stone crushing operations in Kalwan village of Sikrai Tehsil in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.

Villagers had reportedly raised complaints since 2020 regarding:
- Illegal blasting in the Aravalli hills
- Dust pollution from stone crushers
- Damage to roads and houses
- Cracks in schools and homes
- Health concerns including silicosis
- Mining outside approved lease areas
According to court records, villagers also alleged encroachment on:
- Panchayat land
- Forest land
- Grazing land
The issue later resulted in protests and violence in 2021.
Supreme Court Directives
The case was heard by a Supreme Court bench of Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice R. Mahadevan.
During the hearing on May 8, 2026, the Court observed that several complaints had already been submitted to authorities years ago, but there was no clear record showing meaningful action by the administration.
The Court warned the Rajasthan government that if a proper affidavit was not filed, the Chief Secretary could be asked to personally appear before the Court and explain why authorities allegedly “turned a blind eye” to the matter.
Rajasthan Government Admits “Prima Facie” Inaction
In its compliance affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the Rajasthan government admitted that:
No effective or substantive action appeared to have been taken by field authorities regarding complaints made by villagers.
The affidavit stated that available records indicated possible administrative failure in checking illegal mining and stone crushing activities.
Dausa Mining Controversy: High-Level Committee Formed
Following the Supreme Court’s warning, the Rajasthan government informed the Court that it has formed a high-level committee.
The committee has been tasked to:
- Identify responsible officials
- Examine earlier complaints
- Investigate alleged administrative negligence
- Review illegal mining and stone crushing activities
The move is being seen as an attempt by the state government to show accountability before the apex court.
Earlier Supreme Court Observations on Aravalli Mining
The Supreme Court has repeatedly expressed concern over illegal mining activities in the environmentally sensitive Aravalli region.
Earlier in 2026, the Court recorded assurances from the Rajasthan government that mining activities would not be allowed in protected parts of the Aravalli hills.
Environmental experts have often warned that illegal mining in the Aravallis can lead to:
- Ecological imbalance
- Groundwater depletion
- Air pollution
- Land degradation
- Threats to wildlife habitats
