Bhopal: In a significant step toward inclusive disaster preparedness, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched a Braille book designed to help visually impaired citizens protect themselves from disasters such as fires, heatwaves, and lightning strikes. The book was unveiled on Thursday at the state secretariat in Bhopal.
The initiative aims to make disaster management information accessible to persons with visual disabilities and strengthen their preparedness during emergencies.
Special Braille Publication for Persons with Disabilities
The Braille book has been published specifically for visually impaired individuals and contains essential guidance on:
- Fire safety and emergency response
- Protection from heatwaves (extreme heat conditions)
- Safety measures during lightning and thunderstorms
- Disaster preparedness and risk reduction practices
The publication seeks to empower visually impaired citizens with life-saving information in a format they can easily access and understand.
Joint Initiative of Disaster Management and Social Justice Departments
The book has been printed by the Disaster Management Institute, Bhopal in collaboration with the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Madhya Pradesh.
Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that disaster preparedness resources are available to every section of society, including persons with disabilities.
Madhya Pradesh Among Few States to Take Such an Initiative
According to officials, Madhya Pradesh has become one of the few states in the country to introduce such a disaster management resource for persons with disabilities.
After Kerala and Assam, Madhya Pradesh is among the pioneering states to implement a specialized disaster awareness initiative in Braille format.
The move is expected to serve as a model for inclusive disaster management practices across India.

While unveiling the publication, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of ensuring that safety information reaches every citizen, including those with disabilities.
The Braille guide is expected to help visually impaired individuals better understand disaster risks and respond effectively during emergencies, thereby enhancing their safety and resilience.
