Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has achieved a historic milestone in Minimum Support Price (MSP) wheat procurement, becoming the top wheat purchasing state in India this season. The state government’s procurement drive has broken all previous records of the last four years and marked the highest wheat purchase in the past decade.
The large-scale procurement is being seen as a major boost to the rural economy and farmer welfare.
13.27 Lakh Farmers Covered Under Record Procurement Drive
According to official data, wheat has been procured from 13.27 lakh farmers so far in the current season. The total procurement has reached a record 102 lakh metric tonnes of wheat.
This massive participation of farmers reflects strong engagement in the MSP system and improved trust in government procurement mechanisms.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav Closely Monitoring Procurement Process
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is personally monitoring the wheat procurement operations. The Centre has also increased the procurement target from 78 lakh metric tonnes to 100 lakh metric tonnes on the state’s request.
The Chief Minister has been conducting surprise inspections at procurement centres, reviewing weighing systems, availability of gunny bags, and farmer facilities. He has also interacted directly with farmers regarding payments and procurement progress.
The procurement period for farmers who had booked slots has been extended from May 23 to May 28.
₹22,165 Crore Paid Directly to Farmers via DBT
The state government has already transferred more than ₹22,165 crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Wheat is being procured at:
- ₹2,585 per quintal MSP
- ₹40 per quintal bonus
- Total: ₹2,625 per quintal
Officials said this timely payment has boosted rural economic activity across the state.
Improved Facilities at Procurement Centres
To ensure smooth procurement, the government has strengthened arrangements at collection centres:
- Increased weighing scales from 4 to 6
- Extended token generation till 10 PM
- Payment bill generation till midnight
- Procurement available 6 days a week
- Drinking water and shaded seating for farmers
- Improved cleanliness and infrastructure
- Adequate gunny bags, stitching machines, and quality testing tools
These steps aim to reduce waiting time and improve farmer convenience.
Procurement Deadline Extended Till May 28
Considering farmer convenience, the government has extended the wheat procurement deadline from May 23 to May 28.
Farmers who have not yet sold their produce have been urged to take advantage of the extended window.
