Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a strict zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking, stating that the state government is committed to building a drug-free Madhya Pradesh.
Addressing the launch event of the ‘Nasha Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ awareness campaign at Ravindra Bhawan, Bhopal, the Chief Minister said that the campaign is creating social awareness and encouraging people to stay away from addiction.
He stated that after successfully eliminating Naxalism before the deadline, the state government is now focused on making Madhya Pradesh free from the menace of drugs.
The drug de-addiction campaign will continue across the state until July 30, with various awareness programmes being conducted to educate citizens about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
CM Mohan Yadav Calls for Strict Action Against Illegal Drug Networks
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed officials to take strong action against organised groups involved in the illegal drug trade.
He said there should be no leniency towards those involved in drug-related crimes and that action should be taken in a way that sets an example.
The Chief Minister emphasised that every form of addiction damages individuals, families, and society as a whole. He said the government has adopted a strict approach against drug-related activities and is working towards eliminating illegal drug networks from the state.
Madhya Pradesh Police is also coordinating with neighbouring states to take effective action against drug trafficking networks.
‘Nasha Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ Campaign to Create Awareness Among Youth
The awareness campaign aims to educate people, especially young citizens, about the dangers of drug addiction.
Under the campaign, awareness programmes will be organised through:
- NCC and NSS groups
- Educational institutions
- Sports organisations
- Business associations
- Citizen committees
The Madhya Pradesh Police will conduct special awareness drives in schools and colleges, along with counselling and helpline support to encourage youth to stay away from drugs.
Government Expands Drug-Free Initiatives Across Religious and Educational Institutions
CM Mohan Yadav said the government is taking multiple steps to create a drug-free environment in the state.
As part of this effort, restrictions on intoxicants and alcohol have been implemented around 19 religious places in Madhya Pradesh.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of religious and social organisations in supporting the drug de-addiction movement.
To strengthen awareness among students, drug de-addiction and mental health-related courses have also been introduced in higher education institutions.
Rehabilitation Efforts Underway for People Affected by Addiction
The state government is not only focusing on strict action against illegal drug sellers but is also working on rehabilitation programmes for people struggling with addiction.
CM Yadav said that counselling, awareness activities, and rehabilitation efforts are important parts of creating a healthier society.
Police departments are conducting community-based programmes to help people understand the risks of addiction and support affected individuals in returning to normal life.
Departments Join Hands to Make Campaign a Success
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav appreciated the coordination between different government departments in implementing the campaign.
The Social Justice Department has prepared awareness materials such as:
- T-shirts
- Banners
- Badges
- Publicity materials
The Police Department is conducting community safety programmes, while the Higher Education Department has launched four-credit courses related to drug de-addiction, mental health, and social responsibility.
The School Education Department, along with police authorities, is also conducting training programmes and public safety dialogues to encourage students to become responsible citizens.
Previous Campaign Received National and International Recognition
Special Director General of Police Pankaj Kumar Shrivastava said that the ‘Nasha Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ campaign will run from July 15 to July 30 across Madhya Pradesh.
He highlighted that the previous campaign achieved significant success and was recognised in the World Book of Records. The initiative was also appreciated in the British Parliament. He said that Madhya Pradesh Police is taking strict action against the sale of MD drugs and other narcotics while targeting organised drug trafficking groups.
Minister Narayan Singh Kushwah Highlights Commitment Towards Drug-Free India
Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Minister Narayan Singh Kushwah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of making India drug-free, and Madhya Pradesh is actively working towards achieving this objective.
He said the previous drug awareness campaign received strong public support, with participation from schools, colleges, and different sections of society.
Senior Officials Attend Campaign Launch Event
The launch programme was attended by senior government officials, including:
- Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department Sanjay Shukla
- Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Anupam Rajan
- Principal Secretary, Social Justice Department Sonali Ponshe Vayangankar
- Police officials and representatives of religious organisations
The programme began with the singing of the national song “Vande Mataram”. Additional Director General (Narcotics) D. Srinivas Verma delivered the vote of thanks.
