New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved two new heritage conservation schemes under the initiative “Our Monuments, Our Pride”, aimed at preserving and revitalising the capital’s historical monuments through public participation and private sector involvement.
The initiative seeks to strengthen heritage protection while promoting tourism and community engagement across Delhi’s historical sites.
Private Sector to Adopt 75 Monuments in Delhi
Under the new scheme, private companies, PSUs, trusts, NGOs, and other eligible institutions will be allowed to adopt heritage monuments.
Key highlights of the scheme:
- 75 historical monuments in Delhi to be adopted
- Adoption period: 5 years
- Adopters will be designated as “Monument Friends”
- Focus on restoration, maintenance, and conservation activities
The government aims to bring structured participation from non-government stakeholders in preserving Delhi’s cultural heritage.
₹2 Crore Financial Assistance for Restoration Work
The second major scheme provides financial support for conservation efforts.
- Eligible institutions can receive up to ₹2 crore
- Funding will support restoration and preservation of monuments
- Assistance will be granted to qualified organisations involved in heritage work
This financial support is intended to ensure scientific restoration and long-term sustainability of heritage structures.
CM Rekha Gupta’s Vision for Heritage Preservation
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of preserving Delhi’s identity and passing its heritage to future generations.
She said that every generation has experienced Delhi differently—some through books and others by visiting its monuments—and now it is time to strengthen and preserve this legacy.
The CM highlighted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Development as well as Heritage”, integrating cultural preservation with modern development.
Public Participation at the Core of the Initiative
The Delhi Cabinet has already approved the proposal, marking a structured framework for implementation.
According to officials:
- Monuments will be adopted by trusts, NGOs, foundations, and institutions
- Focus will be on upkeep, restoration, and improved visitor experience
- The initiative will help transform monuments into vibrant cultural and tourism hubs
The program aims to make heritage conservation a shared responsibility between government and civil society.
Link with National Heritage Initiatives
The Delhi government’s initiative is aligned with the central government’s “Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan” programme.
This national initiative is jointly implemented by:
- Ministry of Tourism
- Ministry of Culture
- Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)
- State and Union Territory governments
It focuses on improving tourism infrastructure and visitor amenities at heritage sites across India.

Officials stated that the new schemes are expected to:
