Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand has directed officials to expedite the long-pending elections of the Telangana Police Officers’ Association, stressing the importance of a democratically elected body to represent the interests and welfare concerns of police personnel across the state.
The directive came after a delegation of the association, led by its state president Y. Gopi Reddy, met the DGP and requested the revival of the election process, which has remained pending for several years.
Delegation Raises Delay Concerns
During the meeting, the association delegation highlighted that administrative changes and technical challenges had contributed to the prolonged delay in conducting the elections.
They urged the police department to intervene and ensure that the election process is initiated and completed at the earliest, enabling a representative body to function effectively.
DGP Orders Immediate Steps to Conduct Elections
Responding to the request, DGP C.V. Anand instructed concerned officials to make necessary arrangements for conducting the elections without further delay.
He emphasised that the association plays a crucial role in addressing the welfare concerns, grievances, and professional issues of police officers across Telangana.
The DGP also underlined that a strong and democratically elected association would improve communication between police personnel and the department while strengthening institutional welfare mechanisms.
Association Welcomes Decision
Representatives of the Telangana Police Officers’ Association welcomed the DGP’s directive and expressed optimism that the move would restore democratic functioning within the organisation.
They said the decision is expected to enhance participation of police personnel in welfare initiatives and improve organisational transparency and development.
