THDC India Signs 3-Year MoU with MoRTH to Strengthen Highway Safety in Himachal Pradesh 

Three-year consultancy agreement will cover landslide susceptibility studies, mitigation designs, technical reports and monitoring of slope stabilisation works along National Highways.

New Delhi: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Shimla, to provide consultancy services for landslide susceptibility assessment and rockfall mitigation along National Highways in Himachal Pradesh.

The MoU was signed on August 6, 2026, at the Regional Office of MoRTH in Shimla. Under the agreement, THDCIL will provide consultancy services for a period of three years.

THDCIL to Study Landslide-Prone Areas

Under the agreement, THDCIL will act as a technical consultant for identifying and addressing landslide and rockfall risks along various National Highways in Himachal Pradesh.

The scope of work includes:

  • Studying landslide susceptibility areas
  • Identifying chronic problem locations along National Highways
  • Recommending suitable landslide and rockfall mitigation measures
  • Preparing designs, drawings and technical reports
  • Providing technical monitoring of stabilisation measures during execution

The consultancy is aimed at developing site-specific solutions to improve the safety and stability of highway slopes.

Latest Technology to Support Slope Stabilisation

THDCIL will use the latest technologies and methodologies for addressing slope-related challenges in the Himalayan terrain.

The company plans to combine flexible treatment measures with conventional engineering methods, depending on the specific conditions at each location.

Such an approach is expected to help address complex geological conditions and strengthen the resilience of highway infrastructure in landslide-prone areas.

THDCIL Highlights Role in Highway Safety

THDCIL Managing Director Sipan Kumar Garg said the company has established itself as a trusted consultancy partner for MoRTH, NHAI, NHIDCL and other agencies in slope protection and rockfall mitigation works across the country.

He said the association with MoRTH Shimla would further strengthen THDCIL’s contribution towards developing safer and more resilient National Highway infrastructure in the Himalayan region.

Officials Sign Three-Year Consultancy Agreement

The MoU was signed by representatives of both organisations.

  • Dr. Niraj Kumar Agrawal, General Manager (Design–Outward Consultancy), signed the agreement on behalf of THDCIL.
  • Vishnu Murti, Chief Engineer-cum-Regional Officer, signed on behalf of MoRTH Shimla.

The three-year agreement will enable THDCIL to provide technical consultancy and monitoring support for highway slope stabilisation works in Himachal Pradesh.

THDCIL Has Experience Across Multiple States

THDCIL is already providing similar consultancy services to several government agencies and departments across India.

  • MoRTH Dehradun
  • MoRTH Arunachal Pradesh
  • MoRTH Maharashtra
  • MoRTH Mizoram
  • NHAI Jammu & Kashmir
  • NHAI Shillong
  • Uttarakhand State PWD

The company is also involved in slope protection, shooting stone prevention and rockfall protection works for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board.

MoU to Strengthen Safety of Himachal Pradesh Highways

The latest agreement is expected to support safer movement of vehicles on National Highways across Himachal Pradesh by addressing landslide-prone locations and improving slope stability.

The partnership also strengthens THDCIL’s role as a technical consultancy partner for critical infrastructure safety in the Himalayan region, where difficult terrain and geological conditions pose significant challenges to highway development and maintenance.
