Uttarakhand: ₹156 Crore Development Plan for Rishikesh Accelerated Ahead of Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027

District administration accelerates infrastructure upgrades, including Triveni Ghat redevelopment, Chandrabhaga bridge, and riverfront beautification to boost religious tourism ahead of Ardh Kumbh 2027.

Dehradun: Preparations for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 in Rishikesh are gaining momentum, with authorities focusing on major infrastructure upgrades and religious tourism development. A high-level review meeting was held to assess ongoing and proposed development projects worth approximately ₹156 crore.

The review was conducted by the District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Ganga Committee, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, along with officials from multiple departments.

Key Projects Reviewed for Rishikesh Development

Several important projects aimed at improving pilgrim facilities and urban infrastructure were reviewed during the meeting. These include:

  • Triveni Ghat redevelopment project
  • Chandrabhaga pedestrian bridge construction
  • Aastha Path beautification plan
  • Riverfront and Ganga bank development initiatives

Officials were directed to ensure timely completion of all projects without compromising on quality standards.

₹156 Crore Development Plan for Ardh Kumbh 2027

The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh presented a detailed proposal of development works worth around ₹156 crore for the Ardh Kumbh preparations. Alongside this, Jal Sansthan and other agencies shared updates on ongoing drinking water and infrastructure-related projects.

A major focus of the plan is the Triveni Ghat redevelopment, which aims to transform the area into a well-organized spiritual and cultural hub.

Triveni Ghat Redevelopment Plan

The redevelopment of Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh includes several key features:

  • Dedicated zones for religious rituals and cultural performances
  • Flood-resilient structural planning
  • Beautification from Triveni Ghat to Maa Saraswati Temple
  • Improved seating arrangements and public activity spaces
  • Enhanced civic amenities for pilgrims

The project is designed to enhance both spiritual experience and tourist convenience.

Chandrabhaga Bridge and Riverfront Improvements

The proposed Chandrabhaga River, Rishikesh pedestrian bridge project was also reviewed, with suggestions aimed at making it safer, more attractive, and user-friendly.

Additionally, the meeting assessed progress on:

  • Riverbank protection works
  • Ghats redevelopment
  • Tourism infrastructure strengthening

These initiatives aim to improve connectivity and visitor experience across key pilgrimage zones.

Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development Under KfW Project

A review was also conducted on the KfW-funded Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development Project, which covers multiple towns including Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti, Tapovan, and Swargashram.

Key components include:

  • Drinking water supply systems
  • Sewerage network expansion
  • Solid waste management systems
  • Street lighting upgrades
  • Electric bus infrastructure
  • Drainage system improvements

Officials confirmed that several Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have already been prepared, while approval and tendering processes are underway.

Focus on Pilgrim Safety and Tourism Enhancement

District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan emphasized that improving facilities for pilgrims and strengthening Rishikesh’s religious and cultural identity is the top priority. He also instructed authorities to take necessary steps for the conservation and enhancement of the Ganga Museum at Triveni Ghat.

The Public Works Department also presented updates on road strengthening and repair works in the region ahead of the mega religious event.

The large-scale ₹156 crore development initiative for Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 reflects a comprehensive effort to upgrade Rishikesh’s infrastructure, enhance pilgrim facilities, and promote religious tourism. With coordinated efforts across departments, the city is being prepared to host millions of devotees in a safer, cleaner, and more organized environment.
