New Delhi: The Managing Director of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), Praveen Kumar, conducted a detailed inspection of the New Dadri–New Khurja–Sahnewal section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) on May 30, 2026. The visit focused on operational efficiency, infrastructure performance, safety preparedness, employee welfare, and ongoing CSR initiatives.
Operational Performance Review of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor
During the inspection, the MD reviewed the operational performance of the EDFC network and assessed key infrastructure assets along the corridor. He interacted with field officials to understand ground-level challenges and ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, capacity utilization, and smooth freight movement.
The review aimed to further strengthen the corridor’s role in supporting high-capacity, time-bound freight transportation across key industrial routes.

Focus on Safety and Security Preparedness
A key part of the inspection included a detailed assessment of security preparedness across the EDFC section following recent untoward incidents reported on the Dedicated Freight Corridor track.
Senior officials briefed the MD on surveillance systems, monitoring mechanisms, and preventive safety protocols designed to ensure secure and uninterrupted freight operations across the corridor.
Inspection of Traction Substation at New Talheri Buzurg
The MD also visited the Traction Substation (TSS) at New Talheri Buzurg, an important part of DFCCIL’s fully electrified rail network.
The inspection covered critical electrical systems, power distribution infrastructure, and safety mechanisms. The corridor operates on an advanced 2×25 kV traction power supply system, ensuring reliable and efficient electricity supply for freight train operations.

CSR Initiative for Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, DFCCIL inaugurated a modern facility at SEVA Dhaam Ashram, Saha, dedicated to children suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakening.
The initiative includes provision of advanced physiotherapy equipment to improve rehabilitation and therapeutic care. This effort is expected to significantly enhance treatment outcomes and improve quality of life for affected children.
Employee Welfare: New Residential Quarters Inaugurated
The MD also inaugurated newly constructed Type-V residential quarters at Ambala Cantt., developed to strengthen employee welfare infrastructure. The modern housing facility is designed to provide comfortable, well-equipped residential accommodation for DFCCIL employees and their families.
Senior Officials Present During the Inspection
The inspection was attended by senior officials including Director (Project Planning) Pawan K. Rai, Executive Director (Project) Sandesh Srivastava, and General Managers from coordination, project, electrical, signaling & telecommunications, security, and HR divisions.
Their participation highlighted coordinated efforts across departments to enhance operational performance and infrastructure reliability across the corridor.

Dedicated Freight Corridor: Transforming Freight Transportation in India
The Dedicated Freight Corridor spans 2,843 route kilometres and has emerged as a transformative backbone of India’s freight transportation system. The network currently handles an average of 406 freight trains per day and recorded a peak of 907 train interchanges in a single day on January 26, 2026.
During the financial year 2025–26, the corridors transported 586 billion Gross Tonne Kilometres (GTKM), reflecting strong growth in freight movement and increasing reliance on the DFC network for efficient logistics operations.
These milestones highlight the corridor’s contribution to reducing transit time, improving supply chain efficiency, and supporting India’s industrial and economic development.
