New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of the temporary upgradation of six important government posts across key ministries and constitutional institutions, enabling the incumbent officers to continue serving at higher administrative levels.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 27, 2026, the extensions cover senior positions in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Ministry of Finance, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Election Commission of India (ECI), and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).
The temporary upgradations allow the officers to continue holding posts at the level of Secretary or Additional Secretary, even though the original sanctioned posts are at a lower level.
UPSC Secretary Post Upgraded Till September 2027
The ACC has extended the temporary upgradation of the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) from the level of Additional Secretary to Secretary.
The post is currently held by Shashi Ranjan Kumar (IAS:1992:Tripura Cadre). The extension has been approved up to September 3, 2027.

Finance Ministry Gets Two Extensions
The Ministry of Finance has received extensions for two senior officers in the Department of Expenditure.
- Manoj Sahaya (IA&AS:1994) will continue as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser, with the temporary upgradation of his post extended up to January 29, 2027.
- Parama Sen (IA&AS:1994) will continue in the upgraded position of Additional Secretary in the Department of Expenditure. Her extension has been approved up to August 2, 2027.
Varsha Joshi Continues at Additional Secretary Level
The Centre has also extended the temporary upgradation of the post held by Varsha Joshi (IAS:1995:AGMUT) in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying.
Her post will continue at the Additional Secretary level up to December 5, 2026.
Deputy Election Commissioner’s Upgraded Post Extended
The ACC has approved the continuation of the upgraded post of Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India, elevating it from the Joint Secretary level to the Additional Secretary level.
The post is presently held by Maneesh Garg (IAS:1996:Himachal Pradesh), whose extension has been approved up to September 1, 2027.
MeitY Additional Secretary Extension
The temporary upgradation of the post held by Amitesh Kumar Sinha (IRAS:1997) in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has also been extended.
He will continue to hold the upgraded Additional Secretary level post up to August 9, 2027.

- Varsha Joshi (IAS:1995:AGMUT) – The temporary upgradation of the post of Joint Secretary to the level of Additional Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying has been extended up to December 5, 2026.
- Maneesh Garg (IAS:1996:HP) – The temporary upgradation of the post of Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India from the level of Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary has been extended up to September 1, 2027.
- Amitesh Kumar Sinha (IRAS:1997) – The temporary upgradation of the post of Joint Secretary to the level of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has been extended up to August 9, 2027.
The latest ACC decision ensures continuity in leadership across several strategic departments and institutions, allowing experienced officers to continue functioning at enhanced administrative levels while the temporary upgradation of these posts remains in force.
