Delhi: The Delhi government has issued more than 8.4 lakh Pink Saheli Smart Cards to women commuters, marking a major step towards digital, cashless and free travel in public transport. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative reflects growing trust in Delhi’s public transport system and aims to make travel safer and more accessible for women and transgender persons.
Free Travel on DTC Buses Through Smart Cards
The Pink Saheli Smart Card uses National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) technology, enabling tap-and-go access for free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.
As of May 18, a total of 840,618 cards have been issued across the city.
Currently, both pink paper tickets and smart cards remain valid, but the government has announced that in the near future, free travel will be available only through the Pink Smart Card system.

Push for Digital and Smart Public Transport System
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise Delhi’s transport system using digital governance and technology-driven services.
She stated that the goal is to build a public transport network that is:
- Women-friendly
- Smart and efficient
- Transparent and safe
The government believes digital systems will improve both efficiency and passenger safety.
City-Wide Registration Camps for Easy Access
To speed up distribution, the Delhi government has launched a city-wide registration campaign. Special camps are being organised in residential areas and government offices to make the process easier for women commuters.
Currently, cards are being issued through 73 centres across Delhi, including:
- 36 DTC pass sections
- 17 District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate offices
- 20 special registration camps
More centres are expected to be added based on demand.
Launch of Pink NCMC Card Initiative
The Pink Saheli Smart Card initiative follows the earlier launch of the Pink National Common Mobility (PNCM) card, officially introduced by President Droupadi Murmu in March this year.
The program is aimed at expanding seamless mobility access while integrating Delhi’s transport system with national digital infrastructure.
Delhi’s Vision for Women-Friendly Transport
The Delhi government reiterated its long-term goal of transforming public transport into a world-class, women-centric mobility system, ensuring safety, convenience, and full digital integration for commuters across the capital.
