In a surprising turn of event, The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued orders to prematurely retire three Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officers, namely – Mr. Amitabh Thakur, Mr. Rajesh Krishna, and Mr. Rakesh Shankar. The officers were made to retire under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) as they were considered ‘unsuitable to continue working as a public servant.’
The decision was taken by the ministry after screening the officers’ records. Additional chief secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said the Union government, in its order dated March 17, found 1992-batch IPS officer Amitabh Thakur unfit to remain in service and in public interest, decided to give him retirement with immediate effect before completion of his service tenure.
Lucknow resident Rajesh Krishna was the Commandant of the Provincial Armed Constabulary’s (PAC) 10th battalion. Rakesh Shankar, who is from Prayagraj, was posted as the Deputy Inspector General (Karmik) at the Director-General of Police (DGP) headquarters. The orders were issued under Rule 16 (3) of All India Services (DCRB) Rules, 1958.
